Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – Cornwall Motor Speedway presented another great event as the students were admitted for free as a full program in all 5 divisions.
Brian McDonald led the way in the 35-lap JLB Heating and Cooling 358-Modified feature with Corey Wheeler on is back bumper and Felix Roy quickly moving to third. Wheeler found an opening and took the lead on lap 4. Wheeler started to pull away from the field as caution came out on lap 13. Wheeler kept first but McDonald was right with him on the restart as they ran together when the yellow lights came out on lap 18. On the restart, Wheeler kept the lead as Roy moved to second. Wheeler pulled away as Roy lost of a lot of ground turn 4 with McDonald back in second. Wheeler led the final laps and got his second win in a row as Roy claimed back his second at the flagstand over McDonald.
Adam Rozon was quick right off the start in the 25-lap Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman as Thomas Cook and Gabriel Cyr were behind the leader. Issues send points leader Donovan Lussier to the pits on lap 7. Cyr got the lead on that restart over Rozon. Cyr was pulling away as William Racine moved up to second by passing the top 5 in a few laps as Casey Swamp brought the caution on lap 12. Racine used the outside lane to take the lead over Cyr as Shane Pecore moved to third. The high groove was quick as Pecore took second over Cyr. Racine was quick in front and continues his streak and got his third win in a row.
In the Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock, Kevin Fetterly took the lead as Ian Bressette ran closely with Marc Lalonde moving to third with 5 laps in. Bressette used the outside lane and took the lead on the following lap as Joel Herne was now in battle for the second spot with Lalonde. Some good side by side racing for lead between Bressette and Lalonde as caution was out on lap 15. Bressette kept his first as Joel Herne spun in turn 2 while he was third with only 2 laps to go. A great restart for Lalonde as he passes Bressette and gets his third win of the year.
Marc-Andre Voyer got the lead in the 20-lap Ricks Ranch Mini-Stock feature as Travis Lamarche took the lead on lap 9 as Antoine Dumouchel was in the mix as well. James Clarke started to make some noise as joined the top 3 by halfway point. Lap traffic became a factor in the final portion as Dumouchel took the lead with 3 laps to go. Dumouchel led the final laps and got his first win at the speedway!
Matt Prunner had a strong night in the 20-lap Novice Sportsman Fun Zone Inflatables taking his second win of the season in the division.
A big event next week as we mark the return of the Empire Super Sprints after 5 years of absence along with the Clyde Sligner Pro-Stock Series, Lightning Sprints, Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini-Stock. Racing will start at 6pm.
