Story By: JOHN SNYDER / ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY – MIDDLETOWN, NY – Led by the always exciting, and often unpredictable, Sportsman division, this Saturday’s racing at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York also features the novice Rookie Sportsman, the full-body Street Stocks, and the insanely wild Enduro racers for a full night of action on the historic five-eighths-mile clay-surfaced speedway.
In terms of sheer numbers, the Sportsman is Orange County’s largest division. Their most recent outing, on June 10, drew a field of 58 competitors that had to be whittled down to 24 starters for the 20-lap, $1,000 to win feature race. That makes qualifying heat and last chance races super competitive, in no-holds-barred dashes to gain one of the coveted starting slots.
Sportsman drivers just beginning their racing endeavors have their own Rookie division with their own qualifying and feature races. The exact number of races will be determined by the size of the entrants’ roster.
This year’s Street Stock division, the only one at Orange County utilizing full-bodied cars, has grown in size and competitiveness. They, too, will have qualifying races for position in their feature event.
Capping of the evening will be an Enduro race. Other than some safety specifications, these cars are “run what ya brung” stock. Strange, hard to describe things often occur during Enduro races!
All tickets for the June 17 race meet are $5.00 General Admission. The Drive-In will not be open. Party Deck $15.00 (2 person minimum, 4 maximum per table). Tower seats are $30.00 each. Children 12 and under are always free. Pit passes are $30.00 member, $35.00 non-member.
Pits open at 3:00 pm; stands at 4:30 pm. Racing begins at 6:30 pm. Please consult the speedway website for any weather-related changes in opening times for the pits and stands.
