Story By: BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY – MINERSVILLE, PA – This Friday night, June 9th will find the PASS 305 Sprint Car series making the first of two visits to Big Diamond Speedway joining the Quandel Concrete Modifieds, USS Achey Crate 602 Sportsman, Big Creek Concrete Crate Rookies and the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners for a big night of racing.
With a big field of cars on hand last Friday, the rain moved in causing the track to cancel the night’s events with the UMLS Super Late Models set to compete. With no dates available to reschedule, this event will have to wait until 2024.
Coming up this Friday night will be the return of the PASS 305 Sprint Cars; this group always puts on a great display of racing when they come to Big Diamond Speedway. PASS driver Logan Spahr out of Lewisberry, PA leads the way in the standings by virtue of his six wins so far in 2023. Spahr was six for six going into last Saturday’s race at Port Royal Speedway, but his undefeated streak ended with Drew Young winning for the first time in 2023. Spahr comes into this week’s race with a 26-point lead over second place Seth Schnoke from Pine Grove, PA. The PASS sprint cars will return on Friday, July 28th for the final visit of the season.
The Quandel Concrete Modifieds will be raring to get back into action after last Friday’s rainout led by two-time winner and current points leader Brett Kressley, who leads second-place driver and one-time winner this season Mike Gular by 118 points. Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard and Rick Laubach. Kressley is on quite a roll at Big Diamond and will look forward to continuing his outstanding 2023 season. This week’s feature race will be a regular 25-lap race.
Probably the most competitive division every Friday night is the USS Achey Crate 602 Sportsman class. 14-year-old Logan Watt leads the way with two wins and his consistency has also given him the lead in the race for the 2023 USS Achey Crate 602 Sportsman points championship. Jordan Henn is a mere 17 points behind followed by Kevin Olenick, Mike Schneck Jr and Mike Loney. Mike Loney was the winner two weeks ago and will be looking to make it two races in a row in the 20-lap feature race.
Jax Yohn will look to continue his success in the Big Creek Concrete Crate Rookie class this Friday. Yohn, who leads the division in wins with three, is also the points leader going into this Friday over Brennan Chapman, Danica Getz, Bryce Bashore and Alex Bartorillo.
Chuck Fayash and Alex Schoffstall look to continue their season-long battle for the top honors in the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner division. Schoffstall currently leads the division in wins, but it is Fayash who leads in the chase for the championship.
After this Friday’s racing card, it will be the return of the USAC Amsoil Wingless Sprint Cars to Big Diamond on Thursday, June 15th. The powerful 410 motors will roar to life in a 30-lap main event paying $6,000 to the winner. The USAC sprints will be joined by the Quandel Concrete Modifieds and the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunners.
The racing action will get underway on Friday night at 7:45 PM with hot laps starting at 7:15 PM
Pit gates will open Friday night at 5:00 PM with the Grandstand gate opening at 5:30 PM
