Column By: DERICK KRINER / RPW – ROSSBURG, OH – Fans of the Eldora Speedway have seen the driver of the Kasey Kahne Racing 49 sit on the throne twice before. They might very well see the big cat back in victory lane and wearing the crown for a third time in Saturday’s finale of the Kings Royal.
Brad Sweet has been in consistent form all three nights at Eldora, scoring a win on his prelim night of the Eldora Million.
With two other podium finishes, Sweet believes a Saturday triumph is possible. “We’ve been right on the podium each and every night, and close [to winning].” $175,000 would sure be nice for the Grass Valley, California driver. It would be his biggest paying win since the last time he won the King’s Royal in 2019.
When asked about how he felt during last night’s show, Brad answered that he “felt like we made some great improvements and had a great car” which showed during his pursuit of Carson Macedo. Sweet was able to move around and try different things to try and get by the 41 car, which has been one of the best cars at the track all week.
Something not to lose sight of is the fact that last night helped Sweet close the gap on David Gravel’s points lead, in the series standings with the World of Outlaws. This is a great rebound after a less than normal performance on Tuesday at Attica, and may be a sign of momentum building at the right time during the month of money.
A third Kings Royal victory would set Sweet ahead of legend Doug Wolfgang and tie him with Ohio favorite, Jac Haudenschild. King Brad the 40th could very well be the phrase uttered at the end of Saturday night’s action.
