Story By: CHRIS MOORE / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – GRANBY, QUE – Canadian Race Day!  For the first time ever, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco treks north of the border into Canada for the first ever ‘Lumberjack Swing.’

First up, Autodrome Granby hosts the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds for the inaugural event outside of the United States for the series.

Autodrome Granby hosts Round No. 7 of the River Valley Builders North Region for 60 laps and a $10,000 jackpot for the winner.

THE STORYLINES

The STSS kicks off a week of first-time events, as Autodrome Granby becomes the 31st different facility to host the series.

The series follows Autodrome Granby with another 60-lap, $10,000-to-win main event at Le RPM Speedway tomorrow night.

Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard comes off a week in which he claimed two River Valley Builders North Region wins at Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway and Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon, N.Y.

THE STARS

Having won four of the six North Region races, Sheppard leads the North Region tour by 56 markers. ‘Super’ Matt has closed to within four wins of the STSS all-time lead held by Stewart Friesen.

St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada’s Mat Williamson is the man left chasing Sheppard atop the North Region standings. Williamson charged from 12th to finish in the runner-up spot last Thursday in the ‘Richie Evans Remembered 61.’

Steve Bernier is the only driver on the roster sitting in the top five in both the North Region and Autodrome Granby standings heading into tonight’s race. The St. Hyacinthe, Quebec native has battled through the opening six rounds and has set himself up well as the series comes to his home turf.

THE SLEEPERS

Granby, Quebec’s Michael Parent got his first taste of STSS action last Monday at Fonda Speedway in the ‘Firecracker 50.’ The Autodrome Granby regular won the first heat race of the night and showed speed in the feature, before retiring early from the event.

St. Damase, Quebec’s David Hebert sits atop the Autodrome Granby track standings with three wins to his name on the season. Hebert joins the long list of Friday night regulars looking to defend the home turf with the STSS in town.

Kings Ferry, N.Y.’s Mike Mahaney hasn’t had the first half of the North Region tour he was looking for thus far. Mahaney will look to turn things around in what will certainly be a ‘wildcard’ pair of races in the North Region.
