Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – Archers Poultry presented another big event at Cornwall Motor Speedway with the Northeast Late Model Alliance, the Street Stock challenge, 358-Modified, Sportsman and Vintage.
Johnathon Ferguson took the lead in the 35-lap JLB Heating and Cooling Modifieds over Brian McDonald and Gilles Godard as caution was out on lap 7. On the restart, McDonald took the lead as Terrance moved to second with Ferguson fading. A good battle for the lead between McDonald and Terrance as both drivers swapping the lead with Terrance taking the top spot, on lap 14 with Gilles Godard running in third. Corey Wheeler started to make some noise taking third from Godard on lap 21 and then McDonald for second two laps later. Terrance led the final laps to capture a third win this season over Wheeler and Kyle Dingwall rounded out the top 3.
In the 25-lap Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman, Donovan Lussier was the early leader over Josh Jock and Scott McGill. The first 10 laps are done rapidly with caution coming out on with 15 to go. Lussier in front with Gabriel Cyr moving up to second on that restart and was challenging the leader. Lussier went a little too high as Cyr slipped by with 7 laps to go. Cyr led the final portion to get his third win of the season over Lussier and Thomas Cook.
Ryan Lambert took a sizeable lead over Steve Baldwin in the 35-lap Northeast Late Model Alliance as he led the first 7 laps as Lambert got caught behind a lap car and Baldwin took the lead as caution was out for Anthony Rinaldi. Baldwin pulled away from Lambert and Sopaz. Baldwin led the final portion to win the event over Lambert and Charlie Sandercock got third.
The Street Stock Challenge was the first feature on the speedway with 27 cars taking the lead as Dakota Sharp led the first lap. Sharp led the way over Jonah Mutton and Shawn Gregory as Stephane Philippe brought the caution on lap 7. Sharp was strong in front of Mutton as Tyler French was now in third with 10 laps completed. The feature a got a good rhythm as they reached lap 21, an accident in turn 2 slowed the field down with 4 laps to go. On the restart, Sharp remained first with Gregory jumping to second with a 3-way battle occurring for the second spot. Sharp won the event over Mutton and Gregory.
The Eastern Ontario Vintage Club was the final feature of the event as Gavin Riddell took the lead over Josh Powers in the 70-80s class with Dexter Billings in the 50-60s. Powers took the lead with less than 5 to go and went on to win the event as Dexter Billings got the 50-60s feature.
Next week will be a full show including the Action Sprint Tour East as the Sportsman will have the night off.
