Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – Pioneer presented one of the biggest events of the season as the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals was in town with a $10,000 to win along with Sportsman, Street Stock, Mod-Lite and Vintage.
In the 100 laps Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals Feature, Mat Williamson to the early lead over Mario Clair and Erick Rudolph. Caution was out on lap 6 as an accident occurred in turn 2. Williamson in front with Felix Roy moving to this as Clair was still second. Roy was quick using the inside lane and moved to second on lap 15. Felix Roy was on a tear as he took the lead from Williamson on lap 18. As the leaders were in heavy traffic, Robert Delormier brought the caution on lap 29. Roy keeping the lead over Williamson and Clair. As Roy pulled away, Clair was racing side by side with Williamson. Caution is out for Steve Bernier on lap 41. On the restart, David Hebert moved to second as the got closer to the leader. Roy, Hebert and Williamson were the top 3 at the halfway point. Leaders were in heavy traffic as Williamson passed Hebert for second with 35 laps to go. Roy mastered the lap traffic as he kept Williamson away from him, Roy went on to capture a second feature this season over Williamson and Tim Fuller who completed the podium.
Karl Letendre to the lead in the 40-lap Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman as Donovan Lussier quickly moved through the field as he took second with 7 laps in the books, Lussier was fast as he took the lead over Letendre on lap 16 after starting 10th. Sylvain Dupuis brought the caution on lap 23. Lussier pulled away as Justin Lalancette and Bobby Herrington were behind the leader. Yellow was out on lap 25. On the restart, William Racine moved from 4th to first in one lap over Lussier. Racine to the lead with Herrington in second and chasing the leader. Both Racine and Herrington went into a great battle exchanging the lead as Racine passed Herrington at the line to get his 5th feature of the season.
In the Mod-Lite feature, it was a battle with the Forcier with Martin Forcier in front as Alex and Michael Forcier were behind the leader. The Forcier got away from the field as Michael Forcier stopped and yellow was out on lap 11. Alex Forcier never looked back and got the win.
The 25-lap Street Stock was the final feature of the event as Dakota Sharp was the class of the field over Tyler French and Brock Gregory. French got credited with the win as Sharp got disqualified at post inspection.
The Eastern Ontario Vintage Club was the first on the speedway with Steve Billings in front. Some good battle for the lead as Billings had to resist a charge from Matt Barbour. Billings was victorious in the 70-80s class as Pete Stapper had the best in the 50-60s.
Next Sunday we close out our 2023 regular season with our championship night in all our divisions along with capping off our Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals, Race for the Cure Sportsman, Clyde Sligner/Farnham Ale Pro-Stock et Eastern Ontario Mini-Stock Showdown Series.
