Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – ACCORD, NY – The weather gods have not treated racetrack owners, race teams and fans very kindly on Friday’s in 2023.

Accord Speedway has especially felt the wrath of Mother Nature this year.  An endless succession of rainouts finally ended last Friday as Accord was finally able to complete their first racing card since May.

Looking to get a 2nd straight show in, Accord took a chance on Friday with their big Camera and Autograph Night scheduled. The forecast was iffy, but late afternoon saw the sun break through and it looked like the night of racing was a go.

But as everyone involved in racing knows, Mother Nature has the final say. The approaching cold front triggered a series of storms that unfortunately curtailed racing after some heat race action was completed. Eventually, the track also lost power.

Car counts were 21 Modifieds, 10 Sportsman, 4 Rookies, 14 Street Stocks, 12 Wingless Sprints and 14 Slingshots.

Stay tuned to the track’s social media for news on upcoming events.
