Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – With Double Points on the line the Outlaw Speedway will close out the regular portion of their 2023 schedule of events prior to heading into post season play.
“I like to finish out the points paying season every year by offering Double Points for all my regular weekly classes, stated Outlaw Speedway owner/promoter, Tyler Siri. It makes everyone work just a little harder entering the final night. Over the past several years we had championships that went right down to the last lap of the feature events. If you look closely at the point standings in most of the divisions, there are drivers as far back as fourth and fifth that mathematically have a shot at winning.”
Entering the final night only the Swarthout Recycling Rookie Sportsman Class has a clear-cut champion as Dr. Hannah Guererri already clinched the title and veteran Winners Circle Deli Mini Stock competitor, Brian “Corky” Grant is in relatively good shape entering the point finale as he holds a sizable advantage over Ray Hyer as he would love to walk off with his first Outlaw Speedway Championship. However, with Double Points on the line should Hyer win and Grant struggle it could be a different outcome. However, all others are up for grabs.
All eyes will be on Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Modifieds as Cory Costa holds a slim margin over Dr. Danny Johnson as the pair have been in a slug fest all season with the overall Track Champion taking home a whomping $10,000.
For Costa in his Dunning Auto Parts sponsored 02, it has been a career year picking up six feature events during the season long campaign including the lucrative Short Track Super Series Event staged on June 6, 2023.
For the Doctor of Modified Racing, he has been nothing short of a picture of consistency piloting the Tim Gibson sponsored and prepared Sunrise Insulation, Shakelton Auto Parts, Lane’s Yamaha 27j.
The Hurricane Steve Paine still has an outside shot to win another title, but he will need a lot of help from Costa and Johnson.
In the Knapp and Schlappi Hoosier Tire Sportsman there are no less than seven competitors that have a chance to win the title and it will be a two-horse race in the Sunrise Insulation American Racer Tire Sportsman as a pair of former Track Champions in Chris Fisher and Brian Fish will duke things out for this year’s title.
The top four drivers in the Brock’s Bowl and Pizzeria Street Stocks are all in contention and Marc Minutolo just needs to show up and have a decent finish to claim another NAPA Hobby Stock championship.
In the Fritz Masonry Youth Bandits Gavin Hall and Zach Daugherty will each be looking to claim their first ever title.
This is an event that no one will want to miss.
“I pay out a lot of money not just to point champions, but right back through the entire top ten. Better than most other tracks. These men and women that support Outlaw Speedway every week are all very dedicated and need to see a good return at the Annual Awards Banquet.” That once again according to track owner, Tyler Siri.
