Story By: MARTIN BELANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – It was championship night at Cornwall Motor Speedway with over 125 cars in attendance as Jim Performance was the title sponsor. With track and series titles on the line, a lot of good action on the speedway.
In the 100-lap Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals, Carey Terrance and Gage Morin swapped the lead in the first few laps as Sam Charland got on fire and red was out on lap 7. On the restart, Terrance was back in the lead with Morin in second and Brian McDonald running in third. The leaders got into lap traffic as Brianna Ladouceur caught fire and a second red was out on lap 20. Terrance pulled away from the field as Mario Clair started to make some noise moving up to third by lap 30. Terrance in front with Morin as many positions were swapped behind him. Terranceca was really quick in front of Kyle Dingwall having a strong showing with Felix Roy back in third. Roy used the inside lane and passed Dingwall on lap 81. Terrance fends off a few charges from Roy to capture the win as Felix Roy got second enough to help him clinch the 2023 Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals and Corey Wheeler is the JLB Heating and Cooling Modified champion!
Bryan Preville to the lead in the 50-lap Race for the Cure Sportsman Series feature with Shane Pecore in second as first caution came out on lap 4. Preville and Pecore in battle for the lead as the leaders were in heavy traffic by halfway point as caution came out on lap 27. Preville had a good start over Pecore as they pulled away from the field as caution came out with 16 laps to go. Pecore was able to take the lead on lap 40 over Preville. An exciting finish as Thomas Cook found something on top and passed Pecore on the final lap to win the event! Gabriel Cyr was crowned the track champion as Shane Pecore won the Race for the Cure Series and the RSI Industrial Heat Championship.
Kevin Fetterly was the early leader in the 40-lap Clyde Sligner/Farnham Ale Lager Pro-Stock Series but got passed by Rock Aubin in the first few laps. Gabriel Caouette moved in the lead pack and took the lead from Aubin on lap 16. A good battle in front between Caouette, Fetterly and Aubin for the lead as laps went down.
