Story By: RON HEDGER / SARATOGA AUTO MUSEUM – SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – When the Saratoga Automobile Museum’s annual Racing Memories program “goes green” on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the all-star lineup of presenters and interview subjects will be joined by 20-year old AJ Albreada, hot off a 24-win rookie season in regional Slingshot competition.
Slingshots look like miniature DIRT modifieds and have produced a number of today’s modified stars, among them Mike Mahaney, Demetrious Drellos, Anthony Perrego, Bobby Hackel and Tyler Dippel.
Albreada went to the post some 40 times in 2023, meaning he won over half of the feature events he ran. He and his family will be on hand to answer questions about their Tobias built Slingshot, show attendees the intricacies of the little cars and participate in the program’s interview session along with division founder Richie Tobias, who will display one of his new electric Slingshots.
Others on the highly anticipated program’s docket include Lime Rock Park announcer Greg Rickes, Ron Mosier, who recently wrote a great book on the late Lou Lazzaro, modified heroes Dave Camara, Jack Lehner and Eugene Munger and Tobias, who will also discuss his illustrious racing career with event organizer Ron Hedger.
The auto museum’s doors will open at ten am, with attendees encouraged to bring memorabilia to share. Prior to the start of the formal presentations, Hedger’s video interview with Ronnie Johnson about his late father Jack will be screened.
Once again, lunch will be available from the always popular West Avenue Pizza and Deli. Attendees will also be able to enjoy viewing the terrific Bond in Motion exhibit featuring cars and other vehicles direct from various James Bond movies.
The Saratoga Automobile Museum is located on the Avenue of the Pines in the Saratoga Spa State Park, just off Exit 13N of the Adirondack Northway (I-87).
