Story By: CHRIS MOORE / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – LAKE CITY, FL – Talkin’ about practice. The 2024 racing season unofficially gets underway tonight as the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco holds practice at All-Tech Raceway.
The fifth annual ‘Sunshine Swing’ presented by Capitol Custom Trailers & Coaches opens with three hours of track time for the STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman.
Practice rounds begin at 6 p.m. and will run until roughly 9 p.m. for both divisions.
Practice will be followed by four nights of racing at the Wendell Durrance-promoted half-mile oval.
Racing begins Wednesday (Feb. 7) with a 30-lap, $5,000-to-win STSS Modified event and 25-lap, $1,500-to-win STSS Crate 602 Sportsman program.
Thursday night (Feb. 8) features a 35-lap, $6,000-to-win STSS Modified main and a $1,500-to-win, 25-lap Crate 602 Sportsman event.
On Friday (Feb. 9), the STSS Modifieds compete for $8,000 to win in a 40-lap main and the ‘Shirley Shootout’ provides a lucrative STSS Crate 602 Sportsman payout in memory of Shirley Zacharias, the late matriarch of the racing Zacharias family. The 30-lap STSS Crate 602 Sportsman program offers $2,500 to win, $1,300 for second and $900 for third. Additionally, heat winners will receive $100 each.
The ’Sunshine Swing’ culminates on Saturday (Feb. 10) with a $10,000-to-win, 50-lap STSS Modified program and another 30-lap STSS Crate 602 Sportsman event paying the winner $2,500.
‘Sunshine Swing’ champions will be decided during Saturday’s main events.
