Story By: BEN SHELTON / COMP CAMS SUPER DIRT SERIES – GREENWOOD, LA – After seeing Friday’s scheduled season opener nixed by rain, the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model Series opened their 2024 season on Saturday night at Louisiana’s Boothill Speedway with Bobby Pierce capitalizing on Cade Dillard’s misfortune to snare the $10,000 victory in the fifth annual Ronny Adams Memorial.
Dillard paced the first 35 circuits before getting upside down in the turn-one cushion on the 36th circuit. The second-starting Pierce inherited the lead and led the last five laps for his third-career CCDS victory.
“I hated to see that for (Cade) Dillard,” Pierce said. “I actually didn’t know what happened until I came around. I heard ‘red’ (over the raceceiver) and I don’t know if he just missed the corner, got a little tight, or what. It was gonna be a pretty good battle, I feel like both of us were kinda slowing down a little bit, our tires were going away, and, with the battle in lapped traffic, it was getting really interesting.”
From the NewVisionCustomShirts.com Pole Position, Dillard paced the first 35 circuits of the 40-lap Comprehensive Motorsports A-Main before his right-rear dug into the turn-one cushion causing him to flip once. He was uninjured but done for the night.
The second-starting Pierce inherited the top spot and led the closing circuits for the Ronny Adams Memorial triumph. Finishing 1.751 seconds behind Pierce was fifth-starting Kyle Beard with B.J. Robinson, 16th-starting Spencer Hughes, and eighth-starting Ashton Winger completing the Top-5 finishers.
The CCSDS contingent is now preparing for another doubleheader next weekend. On Friday, March 15 the fun begins at Arrowhead Speedway (Colcord, Okla.) with a $5,000-to-win / $500-to-start program. The tour debuted at the state-of-the-art oval in 2023 with Ethan Dotson and Billy Moyer Jr. splitting wins. Joining the night’s action will be the Yeoman Race Engines USRA Modifieds and AmeriFlex USRA B-Mods.
