Change Of Plans For Thurston Family Racing During The 2024 Race Season

Story By: THURSTON FAMILY RACING – LAFARGEVILLE, NY – After a tough 2023 season, not being as competitive as we would like to be, the financial strain due to lots of travelling and a disastrous Super DIRT Week last October, we had made the tough decision to “call it a career.”
Our final race was to have been the NYS Indoor Kart Championships in Syracuse in December.
As a family, we began racing in 1977 and have raced most every year since, including Late Models, Small Block Modifieds, Open Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Crate Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, Go-Karts and Champ Karts.
Bob Sr. has always supported all our racing efforts and as the new season approached, he decided he wasn’t quite ready to give it up.
We have purchased a newer Troyer chassis to compete with at Can-Am, with Taylor Doxtater continuing to handle the driving.
While Thurston Family Racing will be limiting our racing this season to just Can-Am, Taylor is working on completing the TEO chassis that he acquired last year. He will have his car ready to compete when he decides to hit the road and compete at other race tracks in 2024.
Thurston Family Racing will support Taylor’s efforts whenever and however we can, to help him have a successful season. We also hope to keep one of our go-karts to compete with when we can, but that will depend on if we can put a budget together.
Hopefully, scaling back our racing schedule to just Can-Am, it will help us be better prepared every time we hit the track and we can be more competitive on a weekly basis.
With our late decision to compete, we will be announcing sponsors and supporters in the next few weeks. We would like to thank everyone that has supported us and been along for the ride the past 46 years.
Our first scheduled race will be the Thunder in the 1000 Islands at Can-Am on April 12th and 13th. Follow our Thurston Family Racing Facebook for more updates.
