Story By: LINCOLN SPEEDWAY – ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – Chase Dietz started Sunday afternoon by setting quick time over the 31-car field.
With a solid second place finish in his heat race, Dietz made the redraw where he drew the pole for the start of the 30-lap feature. Once the green flag waved Dietz took the lead and never looked back, scoring his first win of the 2023 season.
Chase Dietz and Aaron Bollinger made up the front row for the drop of the green flag with Dietz taking the lead. Ryan Newton, in his first race at Lincoln this season after traveling to Central PA from Australia, took a wild ride in turns 3 and 4 on the opening lap bringing out the red.
The field lined up for a complete restart with Dietz once again taking the lead. Bollinger and Tyler Ross battled for second with Bollinger holding on to the runner-up spot. Matt Campbell got by Ross for third coming out of turn 4. Freddie Rahmer was up to fifth early and Danny Dietrich got up to sixth on lap 4 from his 12th place starting spot.
Lapped traffic came into play on lap 5 and the leaders used the high line to get through heavy traffic. Danny was reeling in Freddie to challenge for fifth. Campbell got by Bollinger for second as they raced down the back stretch to take the spot on lap 8. Ross was not far behind and took third from Bollinger. Dietrich and Rahmer battled hard with Danny moving into fifth and he then made quick work of Bollinger for fourth. Danny went to work reeling in Ross with Bollinger in tow which made it a three-car battle for third. Danny got by Ross on the back stretch to take third on lap 26.
As the leaders got into clean air, Campbell started to reel in Dietz but there were not enough laps left for him to challenge for the lead.
Despite cutting the lead by nearly a half second on the last lap, Dietz beat Campbell to the line for the win by .845 seconds. Danny finished third and Bollinger was fourth. Ross completed the top five.
Next Saturday, April 13, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with Hanover Concrete/Golf Cart Services Night featuring the 410 Sprints and USAC East Coast Sprint Cars. Racing is scheduled for 6PM with pit gates opening at 3:30PM and grandstand gates opening at 4PM.
