Story By: DEVIL’S BOWL SPEEDWAY – WEST HAVEN, VT – Orford, N.H.’s Tanner Siemons won the 30-lap Sunoco Sportsman feature at Devil’s Bowl on Saturday, May 18th while fellow McGee Automotive Family driver Jason Quenneville triumphed in the O’Reilly Auto Partys Limited Ranks.

Nick Austin-Neil bagged his first Novice win of 2024, with Ray Hanson, Chris Sumner, Rob Steele and Brent Wilbur also winning main events.

Josh Masterson and Adam Piper led the Sunoco Sportsman Modifieds to green for the evening’s main event. Siemons started 3rd and was engaged in a battle with fellow second-row starter Frank Hoard, III. The race ran unhindered until lap 19 when the caution flag flew for Brian Whittemore in turn two.

Upon the restart, Siemons started outside Masterson on the front row and took the lead away, but another caution on lap 21 bunched the field up again.

This time it was Masterson sneaking back into the top spot on the inside line, until Siemons powered around him in the south end to retake the lead for the last time. Hoard was charging hard at the end, but came up one spot shy of a win.

Wallkill, N.Y.’s Travis Green secured the final podium spot at the end as Masterson faded just a bit. He finished 4th with the Elmo’s Pit Stop Hard Charger Dave Camara finishing 5th from 17th starting spot.

In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman main, Jason Quenneville returned to victory lane, going from 4th to 1st over Scott Towslee, Alex Layn, Steve Pope and Marty Hutchins. Gary English, Jr., went 24th to 6th.

Nick Austin-Neil won the Novice Sportsman feature after brushing with success in the first two race and nearly claiming victory. Josh Bussino followed him across the line with Bobbi Hults, Russ Farr and Randy Edson in tow.

The Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints had a special, two-segment race with the best average finisher being declared the overall winner. Ray Hanson took that honor, finishing 1st and 2nd in a close battle with Chris Lennox, who registered 4th and 1st place finishes. Quinn Quenneville recorded the 3rd best average, with Keviin Smith and Vern Woodard making up the top-five.

The Fisher Auto Parts Mini Stock Feature offered plenty of late-race drama. Late leader Jakobee Alger appeared on his way to the winners’ circle with just a few laps left, but a cloud of smoke and small fire under his #54 car warranted a stoppage of the race. He was unable to continue. Chris Sumner had the lead on the restart and held off Griff Mahoney to score the win. Mark Mahoney finished 3rd with Ron Alger going from 16th to 4th and Damian Olden hanging tough for a 5th place run. The B feature was won by Anthony Johnson.

In the 9th Stater Cannabis Crown Vic Ranks, the budding class’s all-time wins leader Rob Steele returned to victory lane. Starting on point, Steele held off Chad Merrill and Bradford Cram. Opening day winner Eric Friend was 4th and Scott Cram was 5th.

The nightcap, a 50-lap “Wild and Crazy” enduro went off without a hitch, going all the way to lap 50 with no stoppage of the action. Brent Wilbur collected another trophy for the mantle, topping Dan Desforges, Andy Botala, Trevor Jacques and Tim LaDuc.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is back in a big way this Memorial Day Weekend, with Small-Block Modifieds racing for $1,500-to-win Saturday night and a one-day show Sunday for the Sunoco Sportsman Modifieds in their first crown-jewel event of the season, the “Northeast Crate Nationals 100,” paying $5,000 to the winner.

Grandstand general admission is $20 for adults and free for children aged 12 and under, good for both days of racing. Infield drive-in parking is also available for $25 for adults and free for kids for the entire weekend. Pit area passes are $45, once again good for the entire weekend.
