Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – ROSSBURG, OH – The Todd & Vicki Burns SSI Motorsports entry of Ricky Thornton Jr has set a torrid pace in his 2024 campaign. Picking up where he left off in 2023, Thornton has won 15 feature events so far in 2024 including 6 wins in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and most recently winning the Castrol FloRacing Night In America Series Opener at Macon Speedway
Despite the win column, Eldora has always been a different beast to tame for a lot of different drivers including RTJ.
Since 2021, grabbing a checkered flag on the final night of the Dirt Late Model Dream has eluded Thornton. Just last season, RTJ had won a prelim night feature and has led 55 laps at the Big E. What will it take for RTJ to win the Dream?
“We’ve always had speed,” Ricky Thornton Jr says about his performance at the Big E. “The track is so different from qualifying nights to Saturday night’s feature.”
Right now, RTJ has won Prelims, led laps, and has proven himself with consistent top finishes at Eldora. Will 2024 be the year the Ricky Thornton Jr can join the elite group of Dirt Late Model Dream winners?
