RPW Exclusive: The Big Cat Takes Lion Share Of High Limit Money Away From Outlaw Thursday

Column By: MARTY CZEKALA / RPW – DUNDEE, NY – Brad Sweet took the lead on lap 12 from Zeb Wise with a slide job in turn one to score his sixth Kubota High Limit Racing win of the season at Outlaw Speedway.
This was Sweet’s first time running at the 4/10 mile track, and he immediately became a fan.
“I had fun tonight,” Sweet told RPW post-race. “I thought the track was racy, wide and smooth. Kind of what you expect out of a New York track. We haven’t been as good at these New York tracks in the past.”
Zeb Wise and James McFadden made up the front row for the 30-lap feature. Wise pulled out to the early lead. In lapped traffic just a handful of laps in, McFadden challenged Wise for the lead before Sweet attacked to take the runner-up sport inside turn on lap nine.
At the halfway mark, Sweet threw a slider to take the lead. Wise tried to counter underneath, but Sweet had the momentum on the outside.
“I was making speed up high, and I don’t think Zeb had grip off turn four,” Sweet says. “Wasn’t trying to show it to him too early. Finally got my run right and then get going and set a good pace.”
Sweet has gotten used to the clean racing in New York, as tonight’s event went green-to-checkered in the feature without yellows. He had a car dialed in for the long run, which helped him get a chance at the win.
“It’s something we’ve been working on,” Sweet said. “We don’t want to lose that grip. I thought tonight was pretty good.”
Tyler Courtney made his way up to the runner-up spot, passing Wise with 11 to go. “Sunshine” had an opportunity to strike in the final laps, but Sweet quickly made his way through lapped traffic. Much like last year when he won an All-Star feature at Outlaw, Courtney was hoping for no yellow.
“I felt like I was in the right spot if he caught traffic wrong,” Courtney told FloRacing post-race. “He’s a five-time [World of Outlaws] champion for a reason. They’re on right now, but I feel we are, too.”
Wise finished third after an incredible night. The driver of the No. 26 was the quickest amongst all drivers in his heat during qualifying, which meant he started fourth. Taking the checkers first meant that he started pole in the Dash, which he won off a slidejob last-lap pass over James McFadden.
“It was a great night,” Wise said to Flo post-race. “This deal is so hard. To be third to [Sweet and Courtney], I don’t think there are two better cars to be third to. Really happy for our team. Very up-and-down season. Hopefully, this is the start of turning it around.”
36 cars signed in with High Limit, one of the higher car counts for 410 racing in New York state.
High Limit returns tomorrow at Utica-Rome Speedway, with hot laps expected to begin at 6:30 p.m. Based on the large crowd Thursday night, it is recommended that you get to the track as early as possible.
