RPW Exclusive: Brandon Overton Loses Powerplant After Qualifying Heat During Night One Of Dream
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – ROSSBURG, OH – Drivers have specific game plans but generally you want to cleanly qualify into the big race, the Dirt Late Model Dream. Brandon Overton, Wells & Sons Motorsports 76, definitely did not want to see any problems but unfortunately there was growing concern as his car was showing a growing amount of smoke as the qualifying heat went on. After pulling off of the scales, the crew went to work and began diagnosing the issue but it did not take long to determine that the issue was their Clements Racing Engine.
“We looked at it quickly and decided to pull the motor,” Overton mentioned on Thursday evening as his pit was surrounded by crew members and onlookers from other crews and fans. “Our team is working hard to get this motor changed and hopefully we should be good. I want to make some other changes to the car but not sure if we will have time.”
Overton qualified third out of heat race two at the Eldora Speedway on Thursday night, started 7th & finished 10th in the Thursday night Prelim Feature.
