Story By: JO ANN DAVIES / ALBANY-SARATOGA SPEEDWAY – MALTA, NY – The final countdown is now in place with the “Don Davies New York Modifieds 76” less than three weeks out on the calendar.
The exciting Super DIRTcar Series night of racing will include the DIRTcar Pro Stocks and DIRTcar Sportsman running as support divisions to the 76-lap DIRTcar SDS Modified feature race.
Davies was a lifelong stock car racing fan, first attending dirt races when he was three years old. In 1972 he and his wife Jo Ann began a five-decade-long dedication to writing the “New York Modifieds” column. The big block Modifieds, Pro Stocks, and Sportsman were his three favorite divisions on a dirt track.
He would often remark how the Pro Stocks and Sportsman, considered support divisions by most fans, were often some of the most competitive racing of the night.
On Tuesday, June 25, the Modified, Pro Stock, and Sportsman competitors will be vying not only for their purse earnings on this special night, but for the added prize monies that will be a part of each division’s cash earnings.
The Pro Stock “Don Davies Speedway Scene 23” event leader of lap 8 and the leader of lap 18 will each receive a bonus of $76 courtesy of Glen Ridge Motorsports Park (Glen, NY). Additionally, GRMP will sponsor the driver who finishes in 18th place in the feature event with a $118 bonus. Add to that, GRMP will award a halfway bonus of $118 to the driver leading the feature on lap 12.
Pro Angle General Contracting (Ballston Spa, NY) will support the driver who finishes 8th in the Pro Stock feature with a $118 bonus.
Greenacres Landscaping (Cannan, CT) will sponsor the winner of the 23-lap feature event that will pay $1,046 for a first-place finish.
The Sportsman “djdaviesmedia 26” feature race will carry bonus payouts with the leader of lap 8 and the leader of lap 18 of that race each receiving a $76 bonus courtesy of Madsen Overhead Doors (Spencertown, NY). Madsen will also sponsor the 18th-place finisher of the Sportsman feature with a $118 bonus.
Greg’s Towing & Repair (Guilderland, NY), a long-time supporter of Albany-Saratoga Speedway, will give a bonus of $118 to the driver who finishes in 8th place in the Sportsman feature.
Cordova Plumbing (Southbury, CT) will support the Sportsman feature winner with a bonus amount to be paid in addition to the winner’s share of the Sportsman purse. If there is a sufficient car count to result in two Sportsman features, the bonus payout will be paid for each feature race.
The Pro Stocks and Sportsman divisions are open to all competitors as long as they meet the rules as outlined in the 20224 DIRTcar rulebook.
