Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – Bobby Varin of Johnstown, NY makes a three hour plus drive to compete at the Outlaw Speedway every Friday night.
Piloting one of Tyler Siri’s potent TEO Pro Car machines, Varin has become a real player at the popular Yates County oval and for the second week in a row he was able to find victory lane in the Friendly Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram 30 lap Modified feature.
The father/son duo of Steve and Tommy Paine would lead the twenty-three-car field to the opening green flag with Hurricane Steve Paine assuming command from lap one.
Bossman, Tyler Siri piloting a brand new Teo was a rocket right out of the gate and wasted little time clearing Varin and Tommy Collins to take over the runner-up spot and began to reel in Paine.
A pair of caution flags on laps one and seventeen would slow the pace and bunch the field as Paine continued to lead with Siri and Ajay Potrzebowski who had lined up seventh on the opening grid was now up to third.
It was a lap eighteen yellow that would change the whole complexity of the feature as incidental contact between the leaders would find Paine and Potrzebowski heading to the rear with Siri going pit side and done for the night.
Bobby Varin, who had been running fourth at the time would inherit the top spot and never look back leading the remaining dozen laps in backing up last week’s win and making it two on the season.
Mike Maresca could put on another one of his masterful drives coming from eleventh to claim the runner-up position with Jeff Daugherty moving forward from eighth to round the podium finishers.
The Doctor, Danny Johnson would advance some ten positions in claiming fourth at the double checkered flags with current high point man, Alex Payne rounding the top five with another solid effort.
Paine would wind up fourteenth with Potrzebowski recovering to nail eleventh.
In the Sunrise Insulation/Knapp and Schlappi Lumber Crate Sportsman second generation pilot, Brett Buono along with two-time Outlaw Speedway Sportsman Track Champ, AJ Lloyd would bring the twenty-one car field to green with Buono showing the way over the first pair of circuits before Lloyd would charge into the top spot and take control of laps three and four. Buono would retake the lead on a lap five restart, the only slowdown of the twenty-five-lap event and lead until lap ten when Greg Crooker, who had lined up third on the opening grid would move by and take over the lead.
At this point Crooker’s son, Carter was moving his way very methodically from row six through traffic and was now second and glued to his father’s rear bumper.
It was on lap nineteen that Carter made his move around father, Greg to inherit the lead which he would never relinquish as he cruised to his second win in a row.
A disappointed Greg Crooker had to settle for a well-deserved second place finish, his best run by far on the 2024 campaign with early race leader, Brett Buono finishing third in a feature event that will have fans talking for quite some time.
Defending Track Champion, Chris Fisher advanced four spots from eighth to fourth.
Andrew Clark maintained his fifth starting position throughout the entire event to round the top five.
In Swarthout Recycling Street Stock action it appeared as though last week’s feature winner, Damen Decker was poised to make it back-to-back wins, however veteran competitor, Gene Sharpsteen had other plans,
Jered Hill would lead the opening trio of laps before Decker would assume control on lap four of the caution free twenty lap feature.
Sharpsteen began the event outside row two and quickly moved in behind Decker as the pair began to move away from the rest of the field.
Lap after lap, Sharpsteen kept up the pressure and it was on lap seventeen that he made his move around Decker and lead the final three circuits in taking home the win, his second on the 2024 campaign.
Decker would have to settle for second place with veteran competitor, Chris Woodard racing with the lead group the entire distance in taking home third place money.
Brett Crawford would advance a couple spots from sixth to finish fourth as he was chased across the line by early event leader, Jared Hill who would compete the top five finishers.
The Addison, Corning, Hornell, Wellsville NAPA Hobby Stocks would find Phelps, NY veteran, Marc Minutolo and Addison, NY speedster, Jeredd Dennis lead the field to green with Dennis taking immediate control with Minutolo in tow.
Dennis would lead the opening seventeen laps of the caution free twenty lap feature, but Mr. Smooth (Minutolo) was able to move around Dennis on lap eighteen to take over the top spot and hold on to claim his second win of the season at Outlaw Speedway.
Last week’s feature winner, Willy Easling lined up in the seventh and last starting position and was able to make it as far as the runner-up spot, but the laps ran out ending any hopes of making it two in a row.
Justin Eldredge was able to move around Dennis on the closing lap as the pair would finish third and fourth, respectively.
Two-time 2024 feature winner, Doug Batterson would complete the top five.
The Winner’s Circle Deli 4-cylinder Mini Stocks would pull the curtain on the Super Five Show with Jason Smart and Gavin Hall bringing the thirteen-car field to green.
Smart would lead the opening four circuits before seventh place starter, Willy Easling would blast by, take control on lap five and go on to once again dominate the field.
No less than four caution flags in the opening ten laps would wipe out any huge advantage that Easling had, but on every re-start he was able to maintain the top spot as he led the remaining ten caution free laps in making it four wins in a row in convincing fashion.
Craig DeCamp was once again rock solid in claiming second place after beginning the event inside row three.
Lee Fritz had one of his better runs of 2024 advancing from ninth to complete the top three podium finishers.
Fourth place was claimed by Connor Eric who raced within the top five the entire twenty lap distance with Youth Bandit graduate, Gavin Hall completing the top five.
The Winner’s Circle Delin Mini Stocks also had their Annual King of the Ring, one on one single elimination event and it was Willy the Kid Easling wearing the cape and crown in claiming the event.
Earlier in the evening, the Fritz Masonry Bandits competed in a ten-lap feature event, and it was second generation Elmira, NY pilot, Zach Daugherty making it back-to-back trips to victory lane.
Daugherty was followed across the line by Kassitie Clugstone who had her second good run in a row in claiming the runner-up position.
Connor Crand, Danica Hall and Parker Cunningham would complete the field.
Congratulations to all competitors.
