Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – FONDA, NY – 10k on the eve of Independence Day. A robust $10,000-plus winner’s share awaits one Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Modified competitor on the eve of our nation’s birthday at Fonda Speedway.
The annual ‘Firecracker 50’ is set for Wednesday, July 3, featuring the STSS Modifieds in a 50-lap, $10,000-to-win River Valley Builders North Region event offering $1,000 for 10th, $500 to start and thousands more in bonus cash.
STSS Modified cash bonuses for the Firecracker in memory of Bill Ag total $3,211, in addition to standard series awards, bonuses and certificates.
Rescheduled from June 22, the popular Bill Ag Elimination Match Races for the Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds will take place on Wednesday. The top-five drivers in current Fonda Speedway Modified points are eligible for the Match Races in addition to the driver 6th-10th in points recording the fastest time in Penske Racing Shocks Hot Laps.
More than $4,626 in cash has been raised for the Match Races.
STSS Crate 602 Sportsman take part in a Madsen Overhead Doors North Region 25-lap contest, with $2,000 going to the winner.
For the first time in 2024, the full-fender Street Stocks return to Fonda thanks to Online Performance Parts/Stone Motorsports, with $500 awaiting the victor of the 20-lap main. Albany-Saratoga Speedway rules will be utilized for this event.
After three River Valley Builders North Region Modified events, Saint Catharines, Ont., driver Mat Williamson leads Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., by just five points. Matt Sheppard (Savannah, N.Y.) sits third, 18 points removed from the lead.
Michael Maresca (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Marc Johnson (Guilderland, N.Y.), Alex Yankowski (Covington Township, Pa.), Anthony Perrego (Walden, N.Y.), Jack Lehner (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Mike Mahaney (Elizabethtown, N.Y.), Bobby Hackel IV (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Felix Roy (Napierville, Quebec) and David Hebert (Saint Damase, Quebec) round out the top-12.
Williamson continues to top the Ollie’s Overall Championship over Perrego, Sheppard, Friesen and Yankowski.
In the Madsen Overhead Doors Crate 602 Sportsman North Region, Michael Ballestero of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., leads South New Berlin, N.Y.’s Payton Talbot by just five points.
Completing the top-10 are Blaine Klinger (Walton, N.Y.), Tyler Peet (Lake Ariel, Pa.), Jared LaBagh (Middletown, N.Y.), David Hackett (Lysander, N.Y.), Connor Prokop (Middleburgh, N.Y.), Dale Welty (Montour Falls, N.Y.), Butchie Irwin (Climax, N.Y.) and Joshua Jock (Hogansburg, N.Y.).
On Wednesday, gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $25 (Adults), $23 (Seniors ages 65 and up) and Kids 11 and under are FREE.
