Story By: TIM BALTZ / BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY – BROCKVILLE, ONT – The staff from Rycon Electrical and the fans at the Brockville Ontario Speedway were treated to a great evening of racing this past Saturday night. The Empire Super Sprints were back in town for their annual appearance at The BOS plus a full program.
Due to the DIRTCar Sportsman Series race held at Autodrome Drummond on this night the track held a special non-point show and with the heads up start format Shane Stearns and Gavin Eisele led the field to green with Eisele getting the advantage over Stearns with Dylan Kirkland Kraig Handley and Matt Barbour. The top two pulled away and put on a spirited battle for the number one spot, with Stearns taking the lead back after a quick yellow flag. Stearns then started to draw away from the field, building up a solid lead while Bobby Herrington started to charge forward in the late going as well, eventually getting by Dylan Kirkland for the second spot. On this night it was all Shane Stearns, who dominated the final 17 laps to score his second win of the season. Herrington crossed in 2nd with Gavin Eisele Matt Barbour and Tyler Stevenson completing the top 5.
The Empire Super Sprints were making their return to the speedway for the first time in many seasons and four time winner on the series this year, Danny Varin took the lead early over Davie Franek, Alex Therrien, Billy VanInwegen and Matt Tanner. Varin had a fast car early on until a yellow bunched up the field for a restart on lap 8. When the green flew it was Franek to the point over Varin and Therrien. “No Panic” began to put on a show as he built up a big lead on a fast race track, while Varin, VanInwegen, Therrien and Jason Barney were looking for a way to run him down. Even with a couple of mid race cautions, this night was all about Davie Franek, who not only dominated the event, but also earned his first career win in Canada and his third ESS win of 2024. Danny Varin took the runner up spot while Alex Therrien, who won in a 358 Modified the night before in Granby finished third. Jordan Poirier charged to 4th while Can Am winner Billy VanInwegen completed the top 5.
Dylan Evoy has done it all behind the wheel in a Sportsman car at Brockville and on this night was looking to add his first career 358 Modified win to his resume as he jumped out front early over Terry McClelland and Tristan Draper. Evoy was fast early but Draper was looking for his first Brockville win in nearly two seasons. The “Highside Hustler” took over the runner up spot and quickly ran down the race leader. After a battle with Evoy, Draper took over the number one spot on lap 7 and started to pull away. Behind him Kyle Dingwall was making a charge to the front as well. The 2012 track champion got by Lance Willix and Ryan Arbuthnot to move into third on lap 17. He then got by Evoy after a spirited battle with 10 laps to go. With 5 to go Dingwall found himself on the back bumper of Draper until the yellow flew on lap 27, giving Dingwall and others one final shot at the leader. When the green flew Draper played it perfect as he held off a determined Kyle Dingwall to score his 7th career Brockville 358 Modified win and first since Labor Day weekend of 2022 at The BOS. Kyle Dingwall, Ryan Arbuthnot, Dylan Evoy and Lance Willix filled out the top five.
Patrick Kudrinko had been close to winning a feature all season in the Novice Sportsman ranks. On this night, he took the top spot from the drop of the green flag over Melcolm Banks and Logan Brown. The top three drivers put on a great show all race long with Banks trying several times to get by, but Kudrinko remained in control of the 12 lap contest. Logan Brown started to charge forward late in the race and after a great battle with Melcolm Banks, was able to get the runner up spot and then chase down Kudrinko for the lead. On the final lap Logan Brown gave it a solid effort into turn three for the lead, but it was not enough as Patrick Kudrinko added his name to the list of first time winners, scoring the victory. Brown held on for second with Melcolm Banks, Blake Smith and Matt Mould the top 5.
The night was complete with a 15 lap Mini Stock feature that saw plenty of action throughout the event. Colin Chisamore was fast in the early going as he took over the lead with Jamie Larocque and Dakota Boal right there to challenge. The lead was short lived as Larocque was able to get by for the top spot and started to pull away. By lap 8 Larocque had a big lead while Dakota Boal got by Chisamore for the runner up spot while Hayden Brown began to move in. After a great battle for position on lap 9 between Brown and Chisamore, it all went away as the two drivers tangled off turn four and slowed to a stop. Chisamore went to the pits while Brown returned to the back of the field. On the final restart Laroque started to pull away but Marc Dagenais was making a late charge and made several attempts to get by. On the final lap Dagenais dropped off the pace leaving Jamie Larocque in total control. At the checkered flag Jamie Larocque finally put the bad luck behind him scoring his first win of the year, with Jarrod Galway, Mike Saunders, Matt Boal and Hayden Brown rebounding for a top 5 finish.
Next week the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club will be on hand plus the DIRTCar 358 Modifed, DIRTCar Sportsman, Novice Sportsman, Suprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints and the Street Stocks. Racing gets underway at 7pm.
