Story By: TIM BALTZ / JESSICA POWER RACING – BROCKVILLE, ONT – The 2021 season on the Canadian side of the border was another solid one for Kingston’s Jessica Power, who once again proved that consistency and being around at the end of the race will always give you a shot at championships. This season it finally paid off.
The JPR Racing Team has seen much success over the last few seasons, winning races contending for titles but the team finally broke through this year by claiming the 2021 Ogilvie’s Sportsman Triple Crown Series Championship at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. The three race series was run within the races during the regular season at The BOS on Saturday nights, where the team had another stellar performance even leading the points for a couple of weeks. Jessica and her team were confident through the entire 2021 campaign, as they rode a string of 12 straight top 5 finishes in feature action, that dated back to the beginning of 2020.
Things seemed to be on the right track for the team and the track championship was in sight, however problems in turn four on August 28th would see the team be credited with a 20th place finish, which eliminated them from track title contention. The season at Brockville was not complete as the Ogilvie’s Series title was still a possibility, but the team would need something to happen to track champion and Ogilvie’s Series points leader Bobby Herrington.
On the Friday portion of the Fall Nationals, Herrington broke a steering box on the opening lap, giving Power the opportunity to possibly clinch the title. Jessica battled some of the top Sportsman drivers in the area in the 50 lap event to claim a 5th place finish in the series finale. The finish was good enough to claim her first ever championship in a Sportsman car in her career, after many years of trying, edging out Herrington by a slim 8 points.
The title was big for Jessica as she became the seventh different driver in the nine year history of the Ogilvie’s Series to win the championship and also become the first female to win a Sportsman title of any kind at the historic quarter mile oval. The team still has their eyes on the coveted Brockville Sportsman track championship and are already hard at work preparing for 2022.
Jessica and her entire team would like to thank all the sponsors and people who supported their racing program during the 2021 campaign. Most importantly they would like to thank every single fan who came out to cheer on the team every week at Brockville and at all the special shows the team made it too during the year as well.
The team is always welcoming new partners for the 2022 season. Anyone interested can email them at power52racing@hotmail.com. Jessica and her team wish everyone a happy holiday and they look forward to your continued support as next season is quickly approaching.
