Column By: ROBERT WING / RPW – ELLISVILLE, FL – There were two Supermen in the Super Late Model race Friday night at All-Tech Raceway.
There was Jonathan Davenport in the 49 and nine-time Super DIRTcar Big Block Modified Series Champion Matt Sheppard in the 58.
Sheppard made his first appearance in a Late Model in many years and was fun to watch.
The Waterloo, NY driver brushed the wall in his heat race and broke some parts, spindles, etc. on the first lap and ended with a flat right front tire.
He had to qualify through the B-main where he started last. That didn’t last long as Sheppard drove to the front and won the B.
Unfortunately, he missed the setup a little in the feature, but still finished 11th after starting 19th.
Mark Whitener led much of the early race, but his car went away as well. He came home in fifth.
Ashton Winger took home the win with Tim McCreadie in second and Joseph Joiner in third. Winger did something that was a first for me. He took a selfie in victory lane. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen that.
