Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / DANNY DIETRICH RACING – ROSSBURG, OH – A late-week decision to vacate Central Pennsylvania sent Gettysburg’s Danny Dietrich westbound to Eldora Speedway, set to fire off the first of eight World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series events over the course of the next 12 days.
The decision proved satisfactory for the Central Pennsylvania Sprint Cars Presented by Hoseheads point leader; earning a main event starting position out of 35 entries during Friday’s #LetsRaceTwo opener at Eldora Speedway, officially scored 21st in the running order.
“Not exactly the best way to start the weekend, but at least we got to do some racing. The weather has been a little ridiculous,” Danny Dietrich explained. “We get to race with these guys for the next two weeks. We’ll try some things and hopefully get a win for our car owner, Gary Kauffman.”
The pilot of the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Pace Performance/Gsell’s Whitetails/Hickory Run Orchards/Carlisle Auto Salvage/CATS Used Truck Parts/Drop Of Ink Tattoo/Bowman Block & Head Repair/Sweeney Cars/Self Made/No. 48 kicked off the #LetsRaceTwo opener with the seventh fastest time during qualifying time trials, ultimately finishing fourth during heat race competition to qualify for the $10,000-to-win main event.
Eldora Speedway’s #LetsRaceTwo weekend will continue on Saturday evening, May 13, with a second, full program featuring the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series.
“Tomorrow is a new day,” Dietrich added. “We are always working to improve.”
After back-to-back nights of action at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich will travel further west and continue his stretch of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series events with a visit to the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana. Originally scheduled for April 29, the now Mother’s Day program will cap off a busy weekend at the state-of-the-art facility, launching with MSCS and MOWA appearances on Saturday, May 13. Sunday will be a first-ever visit for “Double D” at the Tri-State Speedway, quarter-mile oval.
Dietrich will turn his attention back toward familiar territory once Indiana action is complete, representing the Pennsylvania Posse during three World of Outlaws appearances in Pennsylvania. The current Lincoln Speedway championship point leader, as well as three-time main event winner, will lead the Posse charge beginning Wednesday, May 17, during the annual Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway. The Pigeon Hills invasion will be flanked by two, full programs at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday and Saturday, May 19-20. Dietrich is a former World of Outlaws winner at the world-famous paperclip, most recently capturing the 2016 National Open worth $25,000.
Once competition at Williams Grove Speedway is complete, Danny Dietrich and the entire Gary Kauffman Racing operation will hit the highway once again and make the near-275 mile trek north to the Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, New York; joining the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series for the Empire State Challenge on Sunday evening, May 21. Dietrich finished 13th during his first and only World of Outlaws start at Weedsport Speedway in 2016, qualifying for the 35-lap program by finishing fourth during his respective heat race.
Danny Dietrich will conclude his eight-race, spring stretch with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Tuesday evening, May 23, at the New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, New Jersey. The Jersey Outlaw Classic will headline competition at the D-shaped oval; the first and only World of Outlaws appearance in The Garden State in 2017. “Double-D” finished 14th a year ago.
