Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / JW MOTORSPORTS – VINCENTOWN, NJ – Justin Whittall’s 2022 season has been fire thus far, not only earning a top-ten outcome in Lincoln Speedway’s season-opening Icebreaker, but doubling up his top-ten count with a tenth-place finish in Port Royal Speedway’s 80th annual season opener on Sunday afternoon, March 6.
Battling head-to-head with 41 other entries, Whittall was on point all afternoon and eventually kicked-off the $5,000-to-win program with a runner-up finish in the fifth and final heat race. The top-two finishers from each heat race earned a spot in the feature redraw ultimately leading to Whittall’s third row starting position.
Certainly no stranger to the Juniata County Fairgrounds, the Port Royal result was Whittall’s best at the “Speed Palace” since finishing eighth on August 21, 2021. A podium score in April’s Open Wheel Madness was Whittall’s top Port Royal performance of the season.
“We’re rolling right now and we’re excited about it. Of course, the overall goal is to win, but to come right out of the gate and earn back-to-back top-ten finishes is pretty special. I owe it all to my team,” Justin Whittall said, driver of the JW Motorsports, JG Kronenberger Fine Jewelry, Mid-Atlantic Transport, Pioneer Auto Body, Worldwide Bearings, Enterprise, No. 67 sprint car. “Our goal is to keep this momentum going forward and stretch our top-ten streak as long as we can. We have the potential to do big things..this could be our record year.”
