Story By: JIM CLARKE / BOBBY HERRINGTON RACING – ELGINBURG, ONT – There is no denying the level of success Bobby Herrington enjoyed during the 2021 season. In his first year as a hired gun wheeling the potent No. 88z DIRTcar Sportsman-Modified machine for Dawdy Racing, the 31-year-old Elginburg, Ontario racer clinched the Brockville Ontario Speedway track championship and claimed 6 main event wins in 7 starts at the popular hometown oval on Temperance Lake Road. Herrington says he is hoping to carry last year’s momentum into his 2022 schedule.
“We had a couple of early-season runs at opposite ends of the spectrum to start the year,’ said Bobby Herrington. “A second-place effort during the team’s first run at Fulton Speedway was a good place to start but a tough night at Can Am meant some late nights in the shop to replace a front clip so we’d have the car set for the first show of the year at Brockville.”
Herrington admits that there is no place like home, so the team was ready to roll for the Saturday, May 14th opener at The BOS. With 25 teams set to roll for headliner, Bobby Herrington took the green flag from 5th position after finishing 2nd in his qualifying heat. The driver says the car was strong throughout the race’s 25 lap distance but a number of yellow flags made it hard to find a rhythm as he sought to track-down the leaders. Every time he mounted a charge, the pace was slowed for another incident.
“Whether we were running the top or bottom of the track the car felt great but there wasn’t anything we could do to get past the lead duo,” stated the driver. “I don’t like to think we settled for 3rd place but that was as good as our night was going to get. Its always good to be able to roll the car into the trailer in same condition as you start the night. In my book its that kind of consistency that paves the way to a track championship.”
While the team’s focus will be on the 2022 events at Brockville Ontario Speedway, they’ll also compete at selected dates at Can Am and Cornwall Motor Speedway throughout the schedule. Bobby Herrington would like to thank his car owners Dan and Kim Dawdy and the team’s sponsorship partners for their support and encouragement during the season.
