Column By: MIKE WARREN / WORLD OF OUTLAWS – NEW RICHMOND, WI – The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet return to Cedar Lake Speedway Aug. 4-6 for the 35th annual USA Nationals.
The World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models will battle for three nights at the iconic 3/8-mile track, fighting for the historic eagle trophy.
It’s not just the trophy that’s up for grabs, as one driver has the chance to walk away with a potential $56,000 if they can sweep both Features at Cedar Lake.
Last season, Eldora Million winner Jonathan Davenport scored the $50,000 prize—his second triumph in the Late Model Crown Jewel.
Notables: Davenport only begins the list of drivers who have found Victory Lane at the iconic event. They include two-time event winner and four-time Series champion Josh Richards, reigning Series champion Brandon Sheppard, five-time winner Scott Bloomquist, and Wisconsin star Jimmy Mars, who’s won the event twice.
“Superman” already has a win on a 3/8-mile track in Wisconsin with the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models this season, grabbing a preliminary win during the Dairyland Showdown at Mississippi Thunder Speedway.
World of Outlaws CASE Late Models Rookie of the Year contender Max Blair has also found success on 3/8-mile tracks this season, as both of his wins have come on tracks the same size as Cedar Lake (Cherokee and Bloomsburg.) Bobby Pierce also has two wins at 3/8-mile facilities (Mississippi Thunder, Tri-City).
Ryan Gustin, Sheppard, Tyler Erb, Michael Brown, and Mike Marlar have also won on tracks like Cedar Lake this season, including the Winfield, TN driver’s $50,000 triumph at Mississippi Thunder.
