Story By: KING OF DIRT – FAIR HAVEN, VT – It was another successful weekend of winning for King Of Dirt Racing registered competitors who claimed ten victories this past weekend at their respective home tracks including Hunter Lapp from Thunder Mountain Speedway and Gabriel Cyr from Cornwall Motor Speedway who earned their first wins.
Ten different drivers from eight different tracks earn victories towards their best 12 finishes in an attempt to become Fastline Performance King Of Dirt Racing Overall Point Champion presented by Swagger Factory Apparel. With the leaderboard expanding each week including more finishes from each driver the weekly point shake up is real. It’s that time of year where consistency is key.
Starting off the weekly trio of highlighted drivers is Thunder Mountain Speedway competitor Hunter Lapp. The Accord, NY driver has been a model of consistency with numerous top five finishes and now earned himself a win Saturday night. Watch for him to climb the leaderboard driving the 209 Storage Vault – NY Stamped Asphalt number 60 HigFab racing chassis.
Cornwall Motor Speedway racer Gabriel Cyr finally cracked victory lane Sunday. Much like Thunder Mountain, Cornwall is a tad behind on the amount of races run, but weekly competitors continue to post solid finishes and for Cyr winning marks his 7th top five finish this season driving his JM Greenhouse Construction – RDP Racing number 94 Bicknell racing chassis.
Our third and final highlighted driver is Mayfield, NY driver Chad Edwards. Right in the mix of a heavyweight fight, Edwards came out swinging this weekend earning his 6th win of the season at Fonda Speedway. With other top contenders continuing to stack wins, this one came at the right time in the Kollar Motorsports – MJ Edwards Trucking LLC number 10% Bicknell racing chassis.
OVERALL KOD CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES: By August 1st all drivers will be real time on the leaderboard with some already having 12 finishes to their credit. The interesting part of the point battle will occur with those drivers who will climb the leaderboard as they too approach 12 finishes. September 1st KOD will award the weekly starting field size bonus points setting up a fall frenzy for drivers looking to gain ground in the standings.
Afton Motorsports Park and Five Mile Point Speedway registered competitor Gary Smith doubled up this weekend earning victories both Friday and Saturday nights. Smith is one of those drivers itching to reach the 12-race mark and see where he slots in on the leaderboard with his Matco Tools – Interstate Homes number 7UP Teo Pro Car.
Utica Rome Speedway and Fonda Speedway Pro Stock racer Beau Ballard also doubled up this weekend with wins on Friday and Saturday nights. Ballard having arguably his best career season leads all full-fender competitors in the Overall standings sitting 4th with 5 wins at Utica Rome and 2 at Fonda driving his Pizza Plus – Kimble Mechanical number 15 Manimal racing chassis.
Little known fact, Merrittville Speedway Sportsman Modified racer Cody Mcpherson is good, damn good. He earned his 5th win of the season Saturday night and has climbed his way into a heavyweight points battle. The St. Catherines Ontario Canada driver is ready for a title run driving his Willard Concrete – C. Mcpherson Jr. Trucking number 7 Bicknell racing chassis.
Oneida, NY driver Matt Janczuk appears to have engaged his beast mode, because he has ripped off four wins in a row at Utica Rome Speedway. Arguably the best Sportsman Modified driver in Utica’s history, Janczuk has himself right on the doorstep of the castle driving his Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux – Finish Line Designs number 33X Teo Pro Car.
Last but not least, Lebanon Valley racer Tim Hartman Jr. has put together three winning performances this season with his most recent coming this past weekend. Big Time Little Tim is chasing his best 12 from either of his home tracks Albany-Saratoga or the valley of speed driving his MRP Companies – Bemiss Trucking number 22 Troyer Race Cars chassis.
