Story By: TIM BALTZ / CAN-AM SPEEDWAY – LAFARGEVILLE, NY – There are many people we consider heroes in this world, but not many wear a cape. Many, wear a uniform and run to situations where many others run away from, those people are our local First Responders.
To say thank you to those heroes, Can Am Speedway will be admitting all First Responders, who present their ID, absolutely free this coming Friday night, which will also see our five weekly classes at “The Nasty Track of the North”, along with a special appearance by the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club, all sponsored by Whitesboro Plow Shop.
Last week familiar faces returned to victory lane at Can Am. In the 25 lap Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modified feature, it was Tim Fuller taking the lead away from Billy Dunn near the halfway point of the race. Fuller would go unchallenged for career Modified win number 36, putting him alongside Danny O’Brien for fourth on the all-time win list.
Two-time and defending track champion Tyler Corcoran made a big move towards the end of the 20 lap Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Corcoran took the lead from Mike Fowler and charged to his second win of the season and now holds a 1-point lead coming into the weekend.
Josh Verne Jr. continued his hot streak and time atop the Panther Frameworx 602 Crate Sprint Car Ranks. Verne took the lead and was not challenged through the entire 15 lap event. He would dominate to score his second in a row and fourth of the season.
Paul DeRuyter is continuing his dominance as of late in the Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman division. DeRuyter took the lead early in the 12-lap feature and drove away to his 4th feature win in the last 5 weeks, and now sits well within reach of the track championship.
The Marsha Gibbons TLC Real Estate Thundercar division saw another great run for Jock Symonds. Making only his 5th start of the year, Symonds got to the front and took the top spot with a handful of laps remaining to score his division leading 3rd win of the season, while Joe Orvis extended his points lead with another top three effort finishing 3rd.
Along with six divisions of racing, the night will also feature a First Responder Parade at intermission. The night of racing will feature the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modified, Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman, Panther Frameworx 602 Crate Sprints, Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman and the Marsha Gibbons TLC Real Estate Thundercars plus the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club. Racing starts at 7pm.
