RPW Column: Veteran Butchie Irwin Set To Tackle Another New Challenge In ’23; Sportsman At Fonda

Column By: BILLY HODGES / RPW – CLIMAX, NY – Veteran racer Butchie Irwin is set to tackle “The Track of Champions” in 2023.

Irwin, who drove the New Day Motors number 117N in the Limited Sportsman at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park during 2022, will make the jump to Fonda Speedway for the upcoming season.

The driver from Climax, NY, who captured the 2022 Limited Sportsman championship at the Fultonville, NY track, will also be switching divisions this coming year.  Fans will get to watch Irwin tackle the stacked Sportsman division at Fonda.

During this past season, Butch and the team had 16 starts with seven visits to victory lane.  He also finished in the top 5 on 15 occasions and never finished out of the top 10.

The 117N team is looking for a big season but has some competition also moving up from the Limited Sportsman class.  Zach Dufel, 2022 titlist at Fonda will also make the jump as will second place man in points at the track, Kyle Dingman.

Irwin is familiar with the Fonda Fairgrounds speedplant, racing in the Pro Stock division several years ago.

The 2023 season should be amazing at the Fonda Speedway, and the addition of Irwin to the Sportsman class will make Saturday nights along the Mohawk River a true place to be.
