Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / CJB MOTORSPORTS – CARLISLE, PA – In all, it was a consistent evening in the Pigeon Hills for hometown Outlaws, Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports, ultimately just missing the Spring Showdown top-ten by one position after a sound preliminary effort.
The Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series program was supposed to compete on two occasions during the recent weekend, but Mother Nature stepped in and ruined the party at Williams Grove Speedway one night prior.
Bayston, a Lebanon, Indiana, native and one-time top-five finisher already in 2023, kicked-off Lincoln Speedway preliminary action with the sixth-fastest qualifying effort in Flight B, followed by a runner-up finish during his respective heat race. The heat result propelled Bayston to the evening’s Dash where he finished eighth; he started eighth in the evening’s 35-lapper.
“It was great getting back to Lincoln Speedway after coming off of a strong run there last year. Being the first night on new tires, we kinda had to start fresh, but we now have a great baseline and we can work off of that the rest of the year,” Bayston explained. “Battling through the heat race to qualify for the dash is always a bonus…gives us extra laps to figure out where we need to be. Definitely a strong start to our feature performance, but we ended up fading some at the end. A few poor restarts didn’t help our cause.
“Overall, a great effort by our team and I’m proud of everyone,” Bayston added. “We handled the new tire circumstances well and we’re already looking ahead to the coming weekend.”
The ace of the TrueTimber Camo, Rothco, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Kistler Engines, Highlands’ Power Sports, High Performance Lubricants, No. 5 sprinter is currently eighth in the World of Outlaws championship standings, padded by one top-five and two top-ten finishes.
