Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – In a rare coincidence, the Woodhull Raceway was able to get their second and final practice session into the record books on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
“We always schedule two practice dates prior to our regular season opener. You never can predict what kind of Spring weather we will get in this region, so the hope is to get one of the two in the books to give our competitors a chance to shake down their equipment for the upcoming race season.” That according to Woodhull Raceway owners, Terry and Niki Brewer.
Mother Nature has been exceptionally good to the Upstate New York area in early April with abundant sunshine, high winds and abnormally warm and in some cases, record breaking high temperatures allowing the track preparation crew at Woodhull the chance to put an exceptionally good racing surface out there for practice.
“You just never know what you are going to get this time of year, but this has been one for the books as we were able to get both practice dates in. There have been years where the weather was lousy, and we did not get any practice in due to wet grounds and cold temperatures so we are hopeful this will be the trend for the upcoming season.”
The Saturday, April 15 final test and tune event was greeted with mid seventy temperatures and a racing surface that was in mid-season form allowing competitors to use a multitude of different grooves to dial in their mounts for the season opener on April 22.
Some fifty-eight machines representing all of Woodhull’s weekly divisions of competition were on hand as the track was open from 5:00 till 9:00 pm for test and tune.
“We are thrilled with the turnout of cars and spectators, stated Terry Brewer. The surface is right where it needs to be allowing drivers to get a realistic feel for what is to come when we open for weekly race action.”
A large turnout of race fans was on hand to witness the practice session with many securing their seasonal reserved seating, purchasing season pit and grandstand passes as well as picking -up Woodhull Raceway 2023 apparel and enjoying great racetrack food and beverages.
All competitors were allowed ample track time to shake down the equipment and shake off the rust in preparation for the 58th Annual Woodhull Raceway season opener on April 22 with all the weekly classes seeing race action except for the Insinger Performance Modifieds which will not begin their season start until April 29.
