The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco heads to New Jersey’s Bridgeport Motorsports Park for the first-ever STSS-sanctioned ‘Doug Hoffman Memorial 60 Over Special’ on Sunday, July 9.
The high banks of Bridgeport host Round No. 3 of the Rent Equip/Party Central South Region $15,000 championship chase for the STSS Modifieds.
The 10th anniversary season for the STSS returns to Bridgeport for the eighth time in series history, and the third of its kind on the four-tenths-mile oval configuration.
The STSS joins Bridgeport in honoring the second-winningest driver in the long history of the speedway. Doug Hoffman – also a former promoter of Bridgeport – won on 92 occasions at Bridgeport on the five-eighths-mile oval configuration.
The ‘60 Over’ honors Hoffman’s iconic race car, which dawned the No. 60 with the word ‘over’ written in the number.
The winner of the 60-lap affair takes home a $6,060 prize, with $1,000 reserved for 10th and $500 to take the green flag.
After a runner-up in the opener at Selinsgrove, (Pa.) Speedway and a victory at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., Frenchtown, N.J.’s Billy Pauch Jr. leads the South Region stars into the place he won twice in 2022.
Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Matt Stangle holds the runner-up spot in points – 29 markers behind – and Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard rounds out the top three, 37-points off Pauch Jr.’s pace.
East Greenbush, N.Y.’s David Schilling and Potsdam, N.Y.’s Michael Maresca round out the top five.
Joining the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds are the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman for Round No. 3 of their Belmont’s Garage South Region.
The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman go for 25-laps and a $1,500 top prize.
Upper Makefield, Pa.’s Joe Toth – an STSS Crate 602 Sportsman winner at Bridgeport in ’22 – leads Middletown, Del.’s Tom Moore Jr. and Spencertown, N.Y.’s Dylan Madsen into Bridgeport.
