Column By: BRETT HORLACHER / RPW – MALTA, NY – With the season winding down, the Northeast’s best are no doubt setting aside some of their best stuff for early-September’s 53-lap-summer-ending Upstate Chevy Dealers $10,000 to win “Dare to Be Different” Autism Awareness Race.
Set to fire off at the famed Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, NY on September 8th, the $10,000 to win race will be accompanied by 358 Modifieds, All-Star Slingshots, Limited Sportsmen, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders.
When asked about the Autism Awareness Race, Albany-Saratoga’s Promotor and ARPY “Promotor of the Year” Lyle DeVore remarked that he love everything about this event.
“We can’t be more excited and honored to team with Jordan (Modiano, this race’s promotor) for this big Pro Stock Race,” DeVore said. “We’re getting the Pro Stocks the attention and honor they deserve, and it’s benefiting some great organizations. If we have good weather, it’s going to be awesome!”
Not just a big payday for the winner with naming sponsor, “Upstate Chevy Dealers,” putting up $10,000-to-win the Autism Awareness Race, the entire field will be battling it out for an overall purse of $30,000.
The ultimate goal of the night is to raise an additional $20,000 to be donated to charity.
The 53-lap race will feature a starting field of 28 cars paying $325 to start. Caution laps (maximum of 3 per occurrence) will count for the first 26 laps with the remaining laps only counting under green flag conditions.
With all that money and glory on the line, it is shaping up to be quite the show at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on September 8th.
Autism charities Autism Society Greater Hudson Region, NY and Bring On The Spectrum, and additional sponsors will be on the Speedway’s grassy area behind the stands during the evening.
There will also be an autograph session at the beginning of the night with pre-race ceremonies featuring drivers throwing shirts as they’re introduced.
With so many cars expected to attend, the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) will have a different feel for this special event.
“The top two drivers in the LCQ will have a choice to make,” event organizer Jordan Modiano stated. “The winner can transfer into the race or take $500. If the winner elects to transfer into the race, the $500 choice goes to the second place finisher. If both choose to transfer that $500 will go to the driver who finishes third.”
Anyone who would like to become a sponsor or learn about the race itself is asked to contact Jordan Modiano at 14jordanm@gmail.com or follow Modiano Motorsports on Facebook.
