Story By: JUSTIN SNYDER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – Gregg Satterlee continued to write history in the ULMS Racing Series division and Devin Hart scored one for the family on the Limited Late Model side during the 20th Annual Butch Renninger Memorial Race Saturday night.
Devon Borden also made a late race pass to score his fifth win of the season in Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Car competition.
Trevor Feathers and Satterlee lined up on the front row for the $7333 to win feature event and it was Feathers leading lap one. It only took one more lap for Satterlee to grab the top spot as he used the outside of the track in turn’s three and four.
Current track point leader, Rick Eckert, started fourth and as the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic, he moved into third on lap 12 of the 33-lap event. At lap 20, Feathers was all over the tail of Satterlee and Eckert was in hot pursuit as well.
However, every time Feathers got close to make a move, Satterlee was able to pull away and open the lead back up again. Neither Feathers or Eckert had anything for Satterlee as he cruised home to his third consecutive Renninger Memorial triumph and his fifth overall.
Feathers, Eckert, Tyler Emory and Dan Stone rounded out the top five. The event also saw multiple drivers throughout the night pick up various contingency awards thanks to many valuable sponsors.
In Dack’s Trucking Limited Late Model competition, Spike Moore and Devin Weyandt lined up on the front row. Moore, looking to defend his 2022 title in the event, grabbed the early lead with Hart settling into second.
Moore opened up a 1.464 second advantage over the first 10 laps of the event, but with 11 laps to go Hart had cut the distance in half. Three laps later the two drivers were nose to tail coming to the flagstand.
With five laps remaining, Hart muscled his way to the bottom of Moore in turn’s three and four to take the lead coming to the line. A caution for a slowing car on the frontstretch halted racing one lap later.
While the caution had the ability to set up some drama over the final four laps, Hart remained calm and consistent over the final four laps to pick up the $4333 win. Not only was the win a big one in terms of payday for the Juniata County local, but it was also an emotional win as the race honors his grandfather.
Moore, Shawn Shoemaker, Austin Berry and Casey Steinhoff rounded out the top five.
In Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Car action it was rookie of the year contender Jarrett Cavalet and Dan Shetler on the front row for the 25-lap A-main. Shetler grabbed the early lead with Cavalet, Ryan Smith, Hunter Schuerenberg and Steve Buckwalter rounded out the top five.
Ryan Taylor, who started third in the event and fell back to sixth early, was the show over the first handful of laps as he used the outside of the track to get back to fourth by lap four. Meanwhile, Schuerenberg, who started seventh, cracked the podium as well.
Taylor cracked the podium one lap later and by lap seven.
Schuerenberg took the lead in the Zemco Racing No. 1. Two laps later Taylor grabbed the runner-up spot from Shetler.
Lapped traffic came into play on lap 11 and one lap later Borden cracked the top five form his tenth starting position. Within five laps he had moved into the runner-up spot and had Schuerenberg dead in his sights.
Over the night four laps Borden steadily knocked down a more than four second advantage for the leader and with three laps to go he grabbed the top spot coming off turn four and to the flagstand.
From there, nobody had anything for the Washington native as he grabbed the $5000 payday and his fifth win of the season at the track by a margin of 1.954 seconds.
Schuerenberg, Buckwalter, Logan Wagner and TJ Stutts rounded out the top five.
