
Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – BRIDGEPORT, NJ – Strike three. For the third time this season, the ’60 Over Special’ in memory of legendary Doug Hoffman fell to the weather at Bridgeport Motorsports Park.
The event will not be run this Sunday, Sept. 24 due to a coastal storm producing heavy rain and high winds.
The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ’60 Over Special’ was originally scheduled for March, was later rescheduled for July and now has been claimed by the weather for the third time in 2023.
Both the Rent Equip/Party Central STSS Modified South Region and Belmont’s Garage Crate 602 Sportsman South Region were scheduled to compete at the high-banked, South Jersey venue.
Attention now turns to the American Racer Cup Short Track SuperNationals weekend at N.Y.’s Afton Motorsports Park for two days of racing Oct. 6-7 headlined by the 15th edition of the “Working Man’s Race” offering $5,500 to the winner. The Short Track SuperNationals weekend includes a non-points-paying race for the STSS Modifieds and the championship round of the Precision Hydraulic & Oil STSS Crate 602 Sportsman North Region.
The following weekend, Oct. 12-14, the STSS contingent hits Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., for the $50,000-to-win ‘Speed Showcase’ weekend featuring three days of action at the famed ‘Speed Palace’ venue.
