
Column By: TOM WENNER / RPW – BECHTELSVILLE, PA – Brian Hirthler, Grandview Speedway’s leading career Sportsman feature winner showed everyone why he is atop the Grandview Speedway win chart.
Hirthler’s 2nd win of ’23, He was not won since April 8th, but this one was dominant and could be the warmup for the high paying Freedom 38er coming in 2 weeks.
The win, Brian’s 20th career came after a 4 lap accident that involved 10 cars and reset the field. Brian had the lead by lap 8 and did not look back. Hirthler is the defending Sportsman champion, Logan Watt finished 2nd and the 2 drivers will come into the final night of point competition battling for the championship crown.
Hirthler joins Watt, and Kyle Smith as Sportsman drivers who have scored 2 feature wins on the season.
Keith Haring and Tom Miller Jr. led the 28 car T.P. Truck Equipment Sportsman to the green flag.
Keith Haring, like his brother Ron in the modified division took command early in the event. Tom Miller Jr, Colton Perry, Nicolas Hamm, and Zane Roth led early.
On lap 4, the caution lights were displayed for Nicholas Hamm who slowed in Turn 3. He was towed off the track on the business end of the wrecker. The field was running as Keith Haring, race leader with Perry, Miller Jr., Roth, and Steve Young the Top-5.
On the restart Colton Perry turned down and collected Keith Haring, these 2 got together and caused a large pileup in turn 4 that collected 10 total race cars and completely changed the complexity of the race. Those involved Colton Perry, Keith Haring, Logan Bauman, Joey Vaccaro, Addison Meitzler, Dylan Swinehart, Zane Roth, Zach Steffy, Steve Young, and Tom Miller Jr.
Tom Miller Jr. flipped as his car was turned sideways. Miller Jr. exited safely on his own power. Roth, Miller Jr, Steffy were towed off and did not return. Meitzler drove off and attempted to return, but was told he could not by officials based on damage to the car. Perry, Haring, and Young drove to the pits and did not return. Swinehart rejoined the field. Bauman pitted and returned.
The field was completely reset after the accident with Parker Guldin out front now, Mark Mohr, Brian Hirthler, Adrianna Delliponti, Brad Grim, Logan Watt, Kyle Smith, and Jesse Landis.
The field goes back to green flag racing with Parker Guldin as the race leader as Mohr, Hirthler, Delliponti, and Grim chase him.
As lap 7 is being scored Brian Hirthler is assaulting Parker Guldin for the race lead. Mohr, Delliponti, Watt and Smith are the Top-5.
The yellow is waving for Dylan Swinehart, Michael Burrows, and Kyle Hartzell are collected in Turn 2. Joey Vaccaro heads to the pits during this caution.
On the lap 8 restart Brian Hirthler powers around Parker Guldin for the race lead. Delliponti, Smith, and Mohr is the Top-5.
With 10 down on the lap counter Brian Hirthler is stretching his legs out front. Guldin, Delliponti, Smith, and Watt are the Top-5.
Lap 12, Halfway mark of the 25 lap event and Mr. FOUR STAR racing is setting the pace out front. Guldin, Delliponti, Smith and Watt are the new Top-5.
As we score Lap 15 Hirthler continues to build the lead out front. Adrianna Delliponti has raced past Parker Guldin for 2nd. Kyle Smith is now 4th and Logan Watt is 5th.
At the lap 20 mark of the race Brian Hirthler is in full command of the race lead, Delliponti is 2nd, Logan Watt passed Kyle Smith for 3rd, Smith and Guldin are 4th and 5th respectfully.
On lap 21, Logan Watt powers around Adrianna Delliponti for 2nd. Smith and Guldin remain 4th and 5th.
Brian Hirthler goes unchallenged the remaining 4 laps of the event scoring his 20th career Grandview Speedway Sportsman feature event. His 2nd of ’23.
Logan Watt rallied for 2nd place, Adrianna Delliponti hits the podium with a great run of 3rd, Kyle Smith 4th, Parker Guldin 5th, Brad Grim 6th, Mark Mohr 7th, Brett Gilmore 8th, Jesse Hirthler 9th (Gaining 17 positions on the night), and Jesse Landis 10th.
