Coumn By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN,, NY – For 20 seasons, Team Froggy has been a major part of Street Stock Racing at the Orange County Fair Speedway.
Known for their race cars having the distinctive frog green colors, the team started out as a single car with owner Ron Constable in his #49.
In 2016, Ron put racing photographer Ryan Modiano into the #49. Despite his lack of on track experience, Ryan developed into a very competitive racer with several point finishes in the top 10. You could hardly ever enter the Team Froggy pit area without seeing Ryan with a huge smile, he just enjoys racing that much.
The 2018 season saw Ron return to the #49 as Team Froggy expanded into a two car team with Ryan driving the #07. And the team was very happy with their point finishes that season with Ron finishing 6th and Ryan 7th.
Late in the 2021 season, Ron acquired Jack Dekker’s #31 Monte Carlo. It was a totally new look for Ron and he placed in the top 10 in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Monte Carlo.
During the 2022 season, Roger Guest Jr. joined the team as Team Froggy went to a 3 car operation. With extensive work on the #11 Frog after the season, Roger raced full time in 2023 and finished a very respectable 11th in points. Roger also had the thrill of racing with his son, Isaiah Guest, who started racing the 918.
Great memories. Just a great group of people on that team, every single one of them.
But, as it goes in life, nothing good in life lasts forever.
Sunday, it was posted on the team’s Facebook page that the team had closed their doors and all the team’s cars, motors and trailers were up for sale.
The team’s announcement by owner Ron Constable on Facebook:
“After some long thought, and speaking to the team, it’s been a long road of 20 years and I’m sad to say, “Team Froggy will be closing its doors with a complete team sell out”. Three cars, two motors and two trailers up for sale. If anyone is interested please privately message me. Thank you to all the family and friends and sponsors throughout the years for the support. It’s been one hell of a ride, but now is the right time. On to new adventures. Thank you all.”
You won’t find many photos of Team Froggy in Victory Lane. Ron scored the team’s only feature victory many years ago. But as often happens, it’s not the height of a team’s victory total that gives a true indication of what they brought to the sport. They were a major asset to the OCFS Street Stock division and to the speedway and they will be missed.
Anyone interested in what the team has for sale can contact Ron Constable on his Facebook Messenger.
Thanks for the memories Team Froggy and good luck in whatever awaits you.
