Story By: BRIAN STRAWSER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – As the weekend approaches, anticipation builds for the action set to unfold at Port Royal Speedway this Saturday, March 23rd.
Race fans have been eagerly awaiting the 410 sprint cars, super late models and limited late models to return to The Speed Palace.
With the strong lineup of drivers from the “PA Posse” that call Port Royal Speedway home, fans can also look forward to invaders like High Limit Racing’s Cory Eliason to headline the field. This Saturday can give fans a taste of what to expect with competition from the touring season coming in later months.
Devon Borden will be one for the headlines from the “PA Posse” team of drivers, coming off a spectacular 2023 season that saw him take home track championship at The Speed Palace, and the first driver not named Logan Wagner to hold the title since Brock Zearfoss in 2017.
Super late model competition over the past 4 years has proven to be a gauntlet for who can come away with the track championship. Last season Rick Eckert from York was able to take home the crown, but will be challenged by top drivers like Colton Flinner, 2022 track champion, and Dylan Yoder who won championships in 2019 and 2021.
Limit Late Model fans can expect the same high level of competition between drivers, as the last repeat champion came in 2019 and 2020 with Andrew Yoder picking up 2 of his 3 championships those years. Drivers by the likes of Devin Hart, who won the track championship in 2021 and won the Hagerstown track championship in 2023 is expected to be in competition as well as Shawn Shoemaker won took home the crown in 2023.
Weather permitting, gates will open at 1PM, allowing fans to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the pre-race festivities with new concession stands found throughout the concourse and also see the newly minted Fan Zone for 2024. After a wet 2023, the Port Royal Speedway team is eager to get back to racing on a regular basis.
Tickets for this event are available for purchase at the gate. General admission price is set at $20, pit passes are $35, students between the ages of 13 and 18 are $10, and kids 12 and under can attend Port Royal Speedway for free!
