RPW Exclusive: David Zubikowski & Zubi’s Racing Taking A Break From Competition
Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – A very successful, local championship winning racing team announced on Saturday that they are taking a break from competition.
David Zubikowski, owner of the Zubi’s Racing Team, announced on the team’s Facebook page that the team will not be competing for the foreseeable future as he wants to focus on spending time with his family.
“After 10 years of racing, I am taking a break from the sport to spend more time with my family and focus energy on other areas,” David stated in the post. “Although my two kids both love going to the track and racing as much as I do, they are at the age where weekends are filled with their own activities and things I don’t want to miss.”
Zubikowski mentioned in his post that he had over 30 different different drivers over the 10 years of car ownership. And he thoroughly enjoyed all the experiences.
“With over 30 different drivers in this time span, I can’t say enough great things about them all as each was hard working, highly skilled and always competitive, many who became like family to me. That was always was the best part of racing to me, the people we met from the other race teams to the suppliers to track workers to the fans…the memories, the bonds and stories are what made it all worth it.”
And he’s stepping away after a successful 2023 season with his most recent driver, Dillon Steuer.
Steuer was the 2023 OCFS Small Block Champion and he picked up wins in both the Small Block and Big Block divisions. He also scored his first Accord Speedway win.
While not an easy decision for David, he closed out his post with him saying to not be surprised to see the team back on the track somewhere down the road.
“So it’s not the end but it’s just a little break for now and hopefully when the time is right and if the sport allows, we will be back racing again sometime down the road. Definitely a bittersweet decision but the right choice for the moment. Look forward to still following the sport and being a supporter and helping all those who did that for us along the way.”
It’s been very enjoyable to watch the Zubi’s Racing Team in competition over the years. A great bunch of people affiliated with the team.
We will miss them while they are gone and will look forward to when or if they return. Enjoy your break Zubi’s and thank you.
