Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – The time is fast approaching for the Annual Dave Machuga Memorial at the Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY.
It will be the second and final Thursday Night Thunder Event at the Yates County Speedway on July 11, 2024, and it promises to be a huge night of race action.
For starters, the Short Track Super Series for the Modifieds will be on the card with the winner of the Ultimate Outlaw 50 lap event walking off with $7078.78.
All the top drivers in the northeast will converge on Outlaw Speedway for this high dollar show with 2023 winner and track regular, Cory Costa returning with an eye set on defending last year’s triumph.
Invaders like Matt Sheppard, Mat Williamson, Mike Maresca and Stewart Friesen have all had good runs previously at Outlaw Speedway as they will try and fend off the likes of The Hurricane Steve Paine, Ajay Potrzebowski Jr., Bobby Varin, Bossman Tyler Siri, The Doctor Danny Johnson, Alex Payne and more.
Also, on the card of events the Crate Sportsman racing for a winner’s share of $2078.78.
The Empire Street Stock Touring Group will make an appearance as part of the Dave Machuga Memorial with the victor pocketing $1778.78 as well as the Mini Stock Division with the winner carting off $1078.78 for their efforts.
“With that kind of money to win it will get the attention of not only our track regulars, but I can for see a whole bunch of invaders rolling into Outlaw. With this being on a Thursday night, there will be no other tracks running so we should get a bunch of good cars.” That is according to Tyler Siri.
The night of action will be broadcast live on Flo Racing.
All drivers in each class will receive 30 show up points.
Dave Machuga was one of the best the region ever produced. Outside of his versatility as a driver on both pavement and dirt, Machuga was well known as one of the best fabricators building numerous creations that competed locally in several different divisions of competition.
Machuga also showed his loyalty to Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler Siri having been a resolute employee for several years right up to the time of his premature death on October 28, 2022.
“Dave was one heck of a guy. He battled cancer for about four years, but you would never know it. He was at the track every race night welding on damaged race cars or doing any repair work that I needed around the facility.” That once again according to Siri.
He then went on to say that “This will be the second Dave Machuga Memorial. Last year we had a heck of a show with a great turnout of drivers and fans. I am anticipating nothing shy of that again on July 11. I worked closely with Brett Deyo of the Short Track Super Series to book this show on a Thursday night this year, which is something a little different for us, but I think the date will bode well for everyone. We had our first Thursday Night Thunder on May 16, and it was a tremendous success, so we are anticipating a good turnout for this one as well.
