Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / WEEDSPORT SPEEDWAY – WEEDSPORT, NY – More than 20 dirt track racing machines took to Weedsport Speedway on Sunday afternoon in preparation for the 2019 season.
A host of Modifieds, Sportsman, 360 Sprint Cars, Mod Lites, 4-cylinders and vintage racers took advantage of some two hours of testing time on a beautiful afternoon.
Modified competitors included the likes of defending Super DIRTcar Series champion, Matt Sheppard, as well as Jimmy Phelps, Chad Phelps, Ronnie Davis III, Greg Birosh and Kyle Coffey.
Dave Marcuccilli and AJ Kingsley, newcomers to the 358 division in 2019, also joined the Modified ranks for the afternoon.
Chuck and Kelly Hebing took laps on Sunday in their 360-sprinters while the Sportsman were led by Brandon Ford.
The Stirling Lubricants/Champion Racing Oil Modified Series will join the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprints Cars on Sunday, May 19 for a fast-paced one-two punch to open the season in the A-Verdi Storage Containers Empire State Challenge. The mighty Modifieds will compete for a $3,000 top prize with a $500 358-Modified bonus on the line.
The Stirling Lubricants/Champion Racing Oil Modified Series will feature a total of six events in 2019, with a $2,000 prize going to the overall series champion following the September 2, Labor Day 100.
Former NASCAR star Kasey Kahne will join the World of Outlaws on May 19 at Weedsport for the tours only stop in the state of New York all season long.
