Story By: KASEY KREIDER / LINDA’S SPEEDWAY – JONESTOWN, PA – Despite roughly a two-hour rain delay at the beginning of the night, all of the scheduled action on a five-division Friday night at the Linda’s Speedway was completed before the clock struck midnight.
The Hoffer Paving All Star Slingshots and the J&J Auto Body Junior Slingshots took center stage as they competed in the third night of their Super National Weekend, accumulating points toward the world championship standings.
A stacked field of competitors came to compete in the evening’s All Star Slingshot event, but Linda’s Speedway’s best rose to the top at the end of the night, as Tyler Ulsh led Brett Bieber and Dave Carraghan across the line to score his first win of the week and his second of the season at the quarter-mile.
The J&J Auto Body Junior Slingshots saw a dominant performance by Christopher Buffalino, as he dethroned former track champion Chase Schott, who had won the week’s prior two races, to take the checkered flag.
The Mt. Gretna Roller Rink 270 Micro Sprints returned with an impressive victory from Josh Stoyer, who pulled away from Mike Boyer and Brandon Heist through a largely non-stop feature and held on through a late restart to take his second win of the year.
Two veterans of the Bernheisel Race Components Charger division duked it out for the win in their 15-lapper, as Scott Lutz vied for a long-awaited return to the Linda’s Speedway winner’s circle with Jeremy Ott. The two drivers ran nose-to-tail for most of the race before Ott took advantage of one minor slip up in turn 2 from the No. 33. Ott pulled to the bottom and grabbed the lead with just a few laps to go, holding on for his second win of the year.
The Stolz Stove Sales Winged 600 Micro Sprints contested the night’s final feature, and it was a first-time Linda’s Speedway competitor who became the newest first-time winner in the class, as Gunnar Pio survived through lapped traffic to score a commanding win over Jason Sechrist and end his first trip to Jonestown in Selinsgrove Ford Victory Lane.
Linda’s Speedway returns Friday, June 16th with a four-division show on the card. The Mt. Gretna Roller Rink 270 Micro Sprints will return with a time-trial event, while the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Wingless 600 Micro Sprints and the Mike’s Towing & Recovery Modifieds return after a few weeks off. Joining them will be the Gene Latta Ford Central PA Legends, who will make their second of four appearances in 2023 at the speedway.
