Story By: RYAN DELPH / SPRING NATIONALS SERIES – BRASSTOWN, NC – With five Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco events in the books with five different race winners, the tour will invade the Bluegrass State for two more shows on April 19-20.
Up first will be a visit to the legendary Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Kentucky on Friday for the $7,553 to win ‘Finn Watson Memorial.’
The doubleheader weekend will then conclude at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Kentucky on Saturday, as the annual ‘Johnny Wheeler Memorial’ will boast a $10,053 first place prize.
At Ponderosa on Friday night, the pit gates will open at 2:00pm and the grandstands will start to allow patrons into the facility starting an hour later at 3:00pm. The Drivers Meeting will start at 6:30pm, while Hot Laps will take to the racetrack at 7:00pm. Grandstand admission will be $30.00 for adults, while kids ages 10 and under will be admitted for FREE. Pit admission into the ‘Finn Watson Memorial’ will be $45.00.
Joining the ground-pounding Super Late Models will be the Open Wheel Modifieds ($1,200 to win), Pro Late Models ($1,200 to win), Crown Vics ($400 to win), and Hobby Stocks. The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series has made four previous visits to Ponderosa Speedway with Mike Marlar (’14), Michael Chilton (’16), Brandon Overton (’17), and Michael Chilton (’18) reaching victory lane. The track is located at 365 Phillips Lane in Junction City, Kentucky 40440.
At Lake Cumberland on Saturday evening, the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series will make our first-ever stop at the 3/8-mile red clay oval, as last year’s scheduled event was washed out. Along with the Super Late Models shelling out a $10,053 payday, other classes on the card are Open Wheel Modifieds ($1,200 to win), Pro Late Models ($1,200 to win), Hobby Stocks ($500 to win), and FWD Mini Stocks ($500 to win).

Ethan Dotson (Waycross Motor Speedway), Brandon Overton (I-75 Raceway), Dale McDowell (Tazewell Speedway), Ashton Winger (Buckshot Speedway), and Kyle Bronson (East Alabama Motor Speedway) have all celebrated in Schaeffer’s Oil Victory Lane so far in 2024. Donald McIntosh, of Dawsonville, Georgia, is currently on top of the series point standings by a mere six markers over fellow Georgian Pearson Lee Williams. Christian Hanger, Ethan Dotson, and Brenden Smith round out the top five in the latest point tally heading into the Bluegrass State.
The Spring Nationals tire rule in 2024 is Hoosier Racing Tire NLMT 2, 3, 4 and American Racer Tire 44, 48, Pro3/56, Pro4. Body rules and the Droop Rule will be the same as those agreed on by both the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series – among others. The entry fee will be $100.00 each night and transponders will be available to rent. Any driver not advancing into the feature field will receive $75.00 in tow money.
