RPW Exclusive: Fonda’s Return To Racing Is Interrupted By…You Guessed It, Mother Nature

Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – FONDA, NY – The stranglehold that Mother Nature has had on racing in these parts the past couple of years is incredible.

For yet another time, Fonda Speedway fell victim to the elements Saturday night as the track was returning to action after surface work.

It was to be a big night at the track as there were a number of features to be run, including some make-up races.

The Modified field was good as in addition to the usual weekly strong field, Stewart Friesen and Matt Sheppard were in competition.

But as a make-up 602 Crate Sportsman feature was hitting the track, the rain started. Although the rain was light at first, the intensity increased to a point where ending the night’s competition was the best option.

There was some racing completed before the rains came.

The 4 Cylinders had a make up feature that saw Kerrie Hollenbeck move to the lead early and go on to victory. Ken Hollenbeck finished 2nd and was the single cam winner. Jon Mason was 3rd, Jay Ingersoll 4th and Josh Beals 5th.

The Modifieds ran 3 heat races with Demetrios Drellos, Stewart Friesen and Michael Maresca taking the wins.

602 Crate Sportsman heat wins went to John Dumond, Ricky Quick and Josh Kane.

Shane Playford won the Pro Stocks heat race.

The two Limited Sportsman heats were won by Bob Rowback and Randy Cosselman.

Next Saturday night, June 1st, the CRSA Sprint cars will be in action along with the Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, Pro Stocks and 4 Cylinders.
