Story By: MARTIN BELANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – One of the biggest shows of the 2024 season at Cornwall Motor Speedway as the Sportsman had their largest purse of the year with $5,555 to win and more than $25,000 total purse. The Modifieds and Mini-Stock were also on the card on this night sponsored by Burnbrae Farms
The 100-lap Summer Sizzler Sportsman Shootout, saw Dylan Kirkland taking the lead over Shane Pecore as caution was out on the initial lap. Pecore took the lead on the restart as Gavin Eisele moved to second with Kirland fading to third. A good battle for the lead as Pecore and Eisele battled and Eisele took the lead on lap 20. Pecore back to the lead as Cody McPherson cracked the top 3 on lap 27. Pecore had a good lead in front as Cody McPherson took the second as caution was out on lap 34. Lap cars were a factor at mid-point as McPherson showed his nose to the leader, but Pecore resisted. Pecore the leader in front of McPherson and Elliot Gamache now in third with 30 laps to go. Pecore build himself a sizeable lead as caution was out on lap 83 with Gamache in second over McPherson. Pecore in the lead over Gamache and McPherson. Pecore went on to win the Summer Sizzler Sportsman Shootout.
In the 55-lap Summer Sizzler Modified Shootout, Corey Wheeler took the lead over Ryan Arbuthnot as both drivers exchanged the lead in the first few laps as Mario Clair was in third. The leaders got into lap traffic as Felix Roy was in the mix as well with 20 laps in the books. Arbuthnot maneuvered well in traffic with Roy in second with 20 laps to go. Roy got closer to the leaders by lap 40 as Roy used the bottom and was the new leader on lap 42 but Arbuthnot came back to the front as they exchanged the lead in lap traffic. On lap 48 restart a lot of movement behind the leader as Mario Clair moved to second and Mat Williamson moving to third. Arbuthnot had the best car and win the event.
Christopher Cordeau was the quickest car in the 25-lap Mini-Stock feature as he had a 6-second lead over the second place as caution was out on lap 21. Cordeau went on to win the event.
